^Well, I don't know about that. Now they'll be obligated to give you the ticket, rather than let you go.

They've been talking about it for years, still haven't seen it happen.

It's not like it's a big secret that the traffic cops are using their discretion. Unless there was some huge internal affairs investigation into a lack of tickets being written, I can't imagine that anyone would feel more or less obligated to hand out tickets.

I think it's a good idea; people will be less willing to clog up the courts system by fighting tickets or charges (after posting their whiny bullshit here first, of course) because there is video evidence of what happened.

They've been using them in some cruisers for about a month now. I think it's a great idea personally. Makes it a lot safer for them when dealing with crazies and will shorten court times, saving our tax dollars. Also, when they're on tape, I'm almost certain they'll lose their attitudes. To many times I've been pulled over by certain district 8 cops with attitude and been blatantly harassed and wished it was on tape. I wish all police were like the district 7 guys. They seem to be so much nicer and easy to deal with. I love law enforcement and respect what they do, but harassment without cause... boils my blood.

    All for it!

Well, it would encourage them to use less. I got pulled over in Dallas once with an expired plate, the lady officer said she "didn't feel good ticketing such a polite Canadian, but we're on camera". I said "well I probably shouldn't give you my number then hey?"

Anyway, double edged sword here. The drama of the copper "having to do 150km/h to catch you" will be a lot more apparent, even if he waited 30 seconds to catch you.

so would i be allowed access to these tapes along with the officers notes and such if i were to fight a ticket in court?

or is it up to the cops descretion to enter the tape as evidence or not?

But you have the option of a date with her on, or before, June 6 in Municipal Court.

+1 for dashcams in cop cruisers, I think it's a great aid for citizens and keep the criminals in jail with a solid case for the judge to know at the court.

+1!! I also like the fact it should keep the cops honest too.

This sounds great to me, as long as the person getting pulled over gets access to the footage as well.

I installed a dash cam 2 years ago with a GPS speed overlay and it cost me $5. My only complaint is that they're probably going to get raped by some install company for $800 per cruiser.

Mar: How did you do a dash cam install for $5?

I have a dash cam install on my car as well and the cost is probably closer to around $350, including CCD camera, DVR, wiring, voltage regulators, and a 16GB SDHC card which is good for around 2 weeks of footage.

We've talked on the mp3car forums before, my username is maheriano. I just use RRCam and record it back to my hard drive. Install a cheap webcam and presto, webcam with GPS overlay. You can also set your power supply to turn off after 30 minutes so it continues to record after you get out of your car and it shouldn't kill your battery.
