Default insurance premium raise due to an accident question

So I hit a car today exiting a small shopping complex to a main street. I traded insurance info with them as well as trading contact info. I ended up hitting the area between their car's driver side door and front quarter panel and causing a dent the size of a fist. I took 100% responsibility for the accident and I thought they would be really mad about it but these people were the nicest people I've met in a while. We even made jokes about our cars. My cousin advised me that I should see if I can arrange a way with them so I can pay full cash instead of going through insurance, as it was going to raise my premium quite a bit.

My question is, roughly how much of an increase am I looking at annually? and roughly how long will it take for them to start decreasing it?

No one can tell you how much it will increase but your own insurer. My suggestion would be to have the other guy file a collision claim with his own company. When you speak with his insurance adjuster just advise them that you wish to pay for his damages. Any company worth their salt will allow you to do this... with the description of damages I bet you will save in the long run

thanks for the quick reply. so the process goes that they file a claim, then their insurance agent calls me? is there any way for me to call their insurance company and inquire about the accident, and see if we can work out an alternative where I can pay for the damages by cash?

you need to contact the people directly to try to make out a cahs deal, but make sure oyu get receipts and stuff...

last i knew the premium would raise for like 5 years, and would probably end up costing you a lot more than if you just give them the cash to fix it now.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.
