    Default Syncrude Dead Ducks Trial

"It’s obvious because the evidence is unequivocal that you have to have a settling pond,” he told the court. “You have to have unrecovered bitumen. There is going to be (bitumen) froth and if you have a froth, anything that lands on it will be killed. Those are absolute givens."
dang their lawyer seems like he is digging himself a whole..

The environmental lobby has somehow gotten extremely powerful in Alberta, to the point where these people do not care if they ruin the backbone of the Alberta economy. The fact is that they only thing this trail will accomplish is to dirty Encana's reputation. They were perfectly willing to pay compensation and change their methods but for some reason this wasn't good enough. People have no problem using oil and gas by the barrel load but they don't like the way it is made. Once the protesters stop using petroleum products, they might get a bit of respect from me.

Interesting perspective about the hunters and wind turbines. Never considered that before. Think if soemthing like this was brought up in court that it would have any effect?

IMO the big difference between the two is the goal of hunting is to kill birds. The deaths of birds on the settling pond as well as from wind farms is a byproduct. I think that both energy methods should be held accountable up to a certain degree, and should put measures in place to try and minimize these bird deaths. Obviously it would be extremely difficult to eliminate animal deaths with these kind of things, but that doesn't mean the companies shouldn't at least try to put measure in place.
