The only places I found the AMEX chip to work was McDonalds, Costco, and random places that have new machines and accepts AMEX.

Most of the time, I tell them to swipe and they defy me to chip it in, only for them to redo and swipe.

The Husky lady already knows me as AMEX

Odd... they always tell me to swipe at Costco.

The only place I've found that reliably takes the chip is Shell at the pump. Everywhere else is hit or miss.

i had my Amex (canadian version) stolen from my car many years ago - they grabbed the wallet by climbing sunroof while i was dropping off a box.

anyway - make a short story short - I didnt realize it was gone until Amex called me , someone had bought 1000 of boos at Co-op liquor in Bridgeland

Filed a police report - explained to amex - all amex did was call me 3 months later suspecting its me - they closed my account right away and sent it to collection agency - this was 2003 maybe things were different.

so just be careful with these companies.

    Thread Bump.

Received a letter from Home Depot Credit Card Services today saying I had been declined of a credit card application, except I didnt apply for a credit card. As it turns out after calling the number on the letter that some slimeball had applied online with all my details incl my name, address, phone number, and birthdate for a credit card for immediate use and it had been declined after Transunion said there had been too many applications on my account. However I signed up for both transunion and equifax and I dont see loads of applications against my accounts so thats a bit of a mystery. I have no idea how some one obtained so much info on me unless it was from that Equifax leak.

Does Credit Karma work in Canada? I’ve got the app for my US stuff and it alerts me when a soft or hard credit check is being requested.

Looks like it only applies to one of the two credit companies in canada which is Transunion.
