Hi guys,
Nikon D40, kit lens.
Seems to shift part of the picture right a bit and change the colour. Anyone know what this problem is or what is causing this?
Just started happening a week ago, not very often though, but still annoying.
Thanks.

damn dude did u drop ur camer or something? is it the camer or the lens?
Try resetting it? Don't know if this works for your model, read here:

Nope, didnt drop it.
I ask because it's still under warranty for another month. It doesn't happen for every shot, so I don't know if resetting it worked or not. Thanks though.
What would be a good nikon camera forum to post this on? There are so many forums out there, I'm not sure which would be best. I posted here because Ive been on beyond for way too long lol, but its probably not specialized enough.
Need to find out whats causing this first.
Thanks.
something like that is usually indicative of a faulty memory card, or a fubar'd camera.
Have you tried shooting with a different memory card? Try formatting the card in your camera. Sometimes, formatting on a different device can cause image corruption like this.
If that doesn't help then try different memory cards.
Do you see the same shifted magenta picture on the rear lcd screen when you take the shot?
How about when you go back and review the photo on your camera?
If those fail, then send it in to nikon quickly while you still have warranty.
I'd say the same thing. It looks like bad sectors on a memory card. It can never hurt to send the camera in under warranty though.
Ya I would just send in. Better safe then sorry.
If you only have a month left on warranty, send it in right away.

My guess is memory card issues. Reset the camera, get a new memory card, and format the card in the camera.
Try use it as much as you can in the before a month goes by and if the problem persists send it to Nikon.
and be prepared for not having a camera for a while when you send it
