Default The greatest country in the world offered to sell South Africa nuclear weapons.

Revealed: how Israel offered to sell South Africa nuclear weapons

Secret South African documents reveal that Israel offered to sell nuclear warheads to the apartheid regime, providing the first official documentary evidence of the state's possession of nuclear weapons.

The "top secret" minutes of meetings between senior officials from the two countries in 1975 show that South Africa's defence minister, PW Botha, asked for the warheads and Shimon Peres, then Israel's defence minister and now its president, responded by offering them "in three sizes". The two men also signed a broad-ranging agreement governing military ties between the two countries that included a clause declaring that "the very existence of this agreement" was to remain secret.

before you all start criticizing israel for having and trying to sell nukes, realize that they need them for defense against the WMD's that iraq possessed

    Wouldn't doubt the document existed.

But like all things defense - its more about baiting the buyer. Noone actually goes to Ikea to buy the bedroom sets on the first floor - they always end up buying the off the shelf stuff in the basement.

Its how I imagine North Korea sells so much military hardware. Look we can make nukes! Can't afford one too bad - but take a look at our clearance missles in the basement!

I think a black market nuke used to have a $140 million price tag. It was far too much corruption temptation for a rogue general of any nation to be carrying one or two. Heck, you can now buy the space shuttle for a mere $10 million (although its definitely overpriced) on a recently reduced SRP of $28.8 million (Jan 2010)

BTW: I thought this was going to be about a rogue US general selling, lol.

Israel, the greatest country in the world? I thought this would have been about the United States with that subject line.
