Anyone go to the sale? I dropped by just to have a look and see if there were any deals and ended up walking out with a BCD, regulator, octo, and computer 15 minutes later haha

    they'll do that...lol.

I'm working or I'd head down there to check it out.

Apparently the vis in minni is like 10' at best, and that's before the rain we're getting now...so don't think I will be diving there any time in the near future, but think I may head to Forget Me Not Pond next weekend just to have a good "warm up" dive...and by warm up I mean in freezing cold water...apparently there were some divers out there last weekend and it was 37 degrees.

Solid gear, I need to pick up a BCD and regulator set as well. Which computer did you end up getting?

I just did my advanced in Koh Tao, Thailand

Its the cheapest place in the world to get certified. Open Water costs 300$ and includes 4 dives. The advanced was 280$ with the 5 dives you need to do plus an extra.

    They do PADI or SSI

They say the Emerald Sea offers some of the best cold-water dive sites there are. Unfortunately, I've never been. I've heard good things about Scuba Stu's in Sooke and there is also a dive shop in Victoria called Pinnacle Scuba Adventures. At any rate, have a great trip and let us know how it is.

the Pacific is in the mid 50s year round. I've done an hour long dive in forget me not pond at 40 degrees in a 7mm wetsuit and not been cold...remember that everyone's cold tolerance is different. I appreciate the advice, but I have been diving in the Pacific before.

Any recommendations on shops to dive with around Cabo San Lucas?

Looking to complete my open water dives for the PADI certification over christmas this year. So far the only place I have contacted is Manta Scuba who are $275US for the 4 dives.

Best Dive Shop in Cabo, I've done approx 20 dives with these guys:

$275 is about right for the area you might find cheaper but I suspect that most quality shops will be in that range.

I did 10 or so dives with Dive Cabo last time I was there and were one of the best operators I have had in the area.

44ft dive boats and the captain (Salomon) is fantastic. They have pretty reasonable packages and they used to include a photo CD at the end of your stay with all your dives on it. They are pretty well reviewed on Scuba Board as well which is where i choose most of my operators.

Has anyone been diving off of Santa Catalina? Any recommendations on dive shops or areas? How about San Diego? My wife and I will be there for the holidays.

San Diego has some great wreck dives that are accessible by boat or some decent shore dives out of La Jolla. The kelp diving there is pretty good.

Those are pretty much standard prices throughout asia, definitely not the cheapest. I got open water certified in Boracay for 150us through Lapu Lapu dive center. Small dive shop locally owned and operated. I think i paid 280 to do my AOW in mabul.
