Default Any Reason why a Cop would...

I was in a small accident on June 3rd in a parking lot in Evergreen, the one with Starbucks, Shoppers and a liquor store. If anybody saw this let me know but basically I parked my car (nothing special btw) these dudes just came out of the liquor store and they stared at me as I parked my car...I was like "OK" anyways I went into the store to check for bigrocks new beer coming out, I was in for like a minute.

I come out and my cars backed out into someones parked van and the two guys are just standing over it going "damn" and "sorry" ....then they just kinda walked away and left...I slowly moved my car forward and parked it then called my dad to see what I do since this is my first minor accident and he said find the other owner and she had just showed up behind me so I got off the phone to talk to her we exchanged info...went on my way.

Why this happened is because I didn't put my car in gear and just used ebrake, for some reason it gave out - (his argument is my car is a 2009 and it shouldn't have but my car has almost 90k on it)

Now to shorten up the story, to claim damage i had goto a cop station n get that sticker. I filed a statement, etc...got my worked started. He calls me the next day and starts drilling into me that I wasn't telling the truth and there is another witness saying I was in the car when it backed up, and for some reason wanted me to rewrite my statement and he would not take it to a judge for giving a false statement...I wasn't in the car so I didn't budge...now my question is does the cop benefit for me changing my statement? Did he make up this "Other" person???

    Got pics of the damage?

In the end, it's still your responsiblity (car owner; you or your parents)... so you're still liable to fix the van anyways.

Did the other person say they'll consider settling the damage outside of insurance? (pay her privately to get it fixed)

She said her damage was under $1000 (she seemed not to care but yet she's the first one to call it in to insurance) and I didn't even know what that meant at the time. And well mine I wasn't even sure and no, didn't take pictures and to late since its in the shop already. But 4-door sedan, back passenger side door, nicely scratched about 7 inchs wide, past wheel well and onto the bumper...hmmm 3 or 4 feet long.

My only conclusion was this "other" witness saw me moving my car outta the way to see wtf happened and not see me walk to my car. Wish I had a pic but at the time I didn't think I was gonna making a post of it or need it to calm....I was basically "nice more retarded shit done to my car" I have alot of parking lot bumps door, scratches, etc

Why would be benefit in any way besides not being taken to task for completing a thorough investigation? Maybe someone did say that you were in the vehicle, and if he didn't fully investigate that avenue of possibility he would be neglectful in his duties.

Don't be too concerned about it; they have to ask questions and pressure people in the event they may have been untruthful. If you weren't, no worries - that supposed witness will have to testify to seeing you operating the vehicle, etc, in court.

Whether you were in the car or not makes no difference on the insurance end of things. you're still at fault. I wouldn't worry about the police thing.

What person can decide if her car is under a 1000? Most small accidents are over 1000....

The cop is just trying to put pressure on you to see if you change your story, as there is a witness who has a different version of events, pretty standard stuff.

So... you left your car running, pulled the e-brake and went into the liquor store? Is that what happened?

If you shut the car off and just pulled the e-brake without locking the car in gear, then that is just as questionable.

    Lesson learned, I suppose.

Dont talk to them past that written statement you gave. The statement is enough - say anything else and it'll get twisted around to be used against you.

I never put my car in gear due to the remote start. I also keep my ebrake in good condition as well though. The transmission won't hold it anyway

I actually didn't realize it was a big deal as long as the ebrake was on.

DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING!! They are going to twist anything you say to reflect badly on you. You admitted to an at fault accident and its over, let insurance fix it.

They tried this with me, yelling at me in the lobby of a district office, threatening me with everything from obstruction, failing to remain at the scene, hit and run, filing a false report Tand theft over $5000 (parents car). the cop went so far as to tell me he sent it right to the traffic section for charges under hit and run. Turned out bad for the officer since my next stop that day was the professional standards division.

Maybe someone did touched your car and it "rolled" into the other car. Ask the surrounding businesses if they have cameras that recorded the event.

doesn't anyone else agree with the cop? from what i can tell, this is just another case of a new teenage driver getting into a fender bender and making up an outrageously silly story to try and cover it up.

have you had the car into a shop to get the parking brake inspected?

(LOL at the mention of the 2 random guys "staring" at the car as it was parked, as if they had something to do with the magical failure of the parking brake.)

Thats the first thing that came to mind lol...

Realistically, you just forgot to make sure your car was parked safely... No matter what details or "random dudes" were there, it was inexperience/laziness/inattentiveness that caused this... Be humble, don't look for other answers, and remember to put up your e-brake...

What did you say happened in the report? Any mention of "Random Dudes?"

An 09' with a bad e-brake? warranty work? Why are you driving it if the e-brake doesn't work?

No the ebrake has been giving me trouble for awhile, l never park with it in gear, yes laugh but whatever...he did go off about in my 14 years i've never heard of someone not putting there car in gear...well guess what bro I never did which is why the brake is almost toast...I'm guessing I didn't pull it hard enough. I've gotten into the car and that jerkness has made it let go.

    Car/Insurance is mine/under me 100%

I've been lurking here for years...lol I got food guru nonliner thinking I'm some punkass kid nice...

And the cop was confused why he couldn't get me to change my story, umm I was like cuz thats what happened...fucking take to court then.

He had called and left a msg to phone him and I decided it was best to go see what he wanted in person...and he blew up right away like I was guilty before innocent.

    Don't change your story.

This isn't that uncommon. In my walks to/from the LRT downtown I have seen a few cars that are mysteriously resting against the car behind them in the middle of the parking lot. Granted, the damage always looked nominal. Always thought it was weird.
