I just came back from a 5 day Vancouver stay last week.

If your wife likes noodles then check out Kintaros for remen on Denman. I got there 20 mins before opening and I was like 5th in line. By the time it was 5 mins before opening, there was enough people to fill the whole place and half.

The soup was so good, but you have to go with the Rich soup base.

Guu is pretty good Japanese cooked foods.

Since you said your wife is more Asian influenced in terms of pallet, the Richmond Night Market is open. This place has TONNES of Asian styled food stands from Viet, Thai, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese food.

+1 on Kintaro for Japanese Ramen and Guu for Izakaya... you can't get anything in the same league in Calgary.

89Coupe, we know you're a baller and everything... but the highest price tag doesn't necessarily mean the best food, especially when he's looking for asian cuisine.
On a side note, have you tried Lumiere since Boulud/Mackay took over? I thought Boulud's restaurant in Vegas was pretty average.

My favorite meal that I ever had in Vancouver was at Vij's (not asian, but kinda..?)

A couple other things to try out there (cuz you can't get it here)
-Xiaolongbao some of the best I've had were from Wang's in the food court at Crystal Mall... almost as good as Shanghai
-Hunanese food at Alvin Garden if you and your wife like spicy food
-Taiwanese beef noodle... i don't remember the names of the places i've been to but there's a lot of them

He might be looking for Asian but his Wife said, best places (must tries).

    Tojo's is Asian.....LOL

Haven't been to Lumier's since Rob Feenie left, but I can't imagine it changing much, the rest of the kitchen is still there and the menu looks very similar.

I'm strictly speaking from personal experiences, has nothing to do with the price tag.

Tojo's is by far the best sushi restaurant in Western Canada. Yes it's expensive, but it's worth every penny.

In Kelowna, check out Bouchons, the Eldorado's boardwalk, and Manteo. Lots of the wineries have great restaurants too.

    Restaurants in Kelowna generally suck.

Bouchons is ok, the dining room at Quail's gate is nice, and has a great view.

Haven't been to either of these places, but both have competed for a Golden Plate award. Both in Kelowna.

    beat ya to it, 89coupe..

The Delta Grand, formerly just "The Grand" is just OK.

Eldorado has one of the nicest rooms in the okanagan, and definitely the best patio.

I'm not sushi "purist", but a lot of sushi connoisseurs would argue that any place that has "spicy _____" on the menu isn't a "real" sushi restaurant to be respected.

Having said that, I'm sure it's good, but I'm told it's somewhat overrated and living off its reputation lately.

I guess now that I live in Vancouver I should check it out one day...

But another one to consider, which I'm told is fantastic, is Octopus Garden

As for Izakaya (Japanese Tapas) there are a lot of good places.

Any of the Guu restaurants are good. They're all different with different menus, but are associated with each other. Another one to try is Gyoza King.

I agree that Kintaro is excellent for ramen.
If Kintaro is too busy, turn the corner onto Robson, and there's another ramen place whose name I can't recall at the moment. It's directly across the street from a safeway. Anyway, that place is pretty decent too, but not orgasmic.

You should just go to the Night Market in Richmond one day and eat street food. Sure it's not 89Coupe food, but you can eat awesome vendor stuff and you'll be full on less than $20.

Made famous during the Olympics, their scallop tacone is un-fucking-believable. Not exactly a fine dining establishment (nor Asian), but its damn good and a must try if you ask me.

A place that is a must try is "Italian Kitchen" in Vancouver.

Thinking about the food is making my mouth water at the moment, it really is that good.

Share a platter of pasta, its delicious. I personally had a bunch of stuff i cant even recall the names of but I wont forget having the 10oz Strip loin.

Make a Reservation if you plan on going there.
