Chicago is walking away from the $2.75m award for Niemi. Looks like they are signing Turco to a cheap 1 year deal as a replacement.

The Hawks are really screwed with Campbell (7.14m), Huet (5.625m) and Stanley Cup / Conn Smyth bonuses (4.158m) taking up huge cap hits.

I'm still surprised they matched the offersheet on Hjalmarsson, they still need to clear cap space for next year, and they need to resign Seabrook next summer.

That's not a bad price for Turco. He's got a lot to prove this season.

They got a bargain for Turco. Pretty cheap and with a proven front line, I think it's pretty much make-or-break for him this year.

It was a shitty year to be a free agent goalie. Nabokov went to the KHL with the lack of teams needing a goalie. There is still a ton of goalies out there on the market needing a home:

    -Niemi
    -Theodore
    -Toskala
    -Emery
    -Valiquette
    -Dubielewicz
    -Legace

If Karlsson/Keetley/Irving don't work as the backup this year, I am sure the Flames can have their pick of a couple goalies mid way through the year who would gladly sign.

The tides are turning... Last year showed that you don't need a top goalie to make it to the top.

Not a good sign for the netminders.

Well a lot of NHL teams starting selling tickets this weekend. I have trips planned to Detroit (vs Avs), and Buffalo (vs Leafs, and Penguins), and I am working on a trip to Boston (vs Kings + Patriots game). Can't wait for the season to start!!

Ondrej Pavelec the goalie for the Atlanta Thrashers, just collapsed during a game, when the play was at the other end of the rink.

    Hope he is ok...

Holy shit, hope he's okay. Exhaustion, maybe?

    Leighton's out on injury... Lame.

I'm scared of the Sharks new lineup... Yikes.

It was Jiri Fischer, now Pavelec. Czech Republic is the common denominator in both cases. Go figure... ?
