Default Removing in ground basketball pole

    Hey guys,

Does anyone have experience doing this? There is just a pole remaining at my parents house. There is cement in the pole and in the ground.

The best idea would be to cut it off near the base and just bury whatever is below grade.

How to do this safely? Anyone wanna come do it for some cash?

    Thanks

Take a hi-lift jack from one of your off roading buddies. Wrap a chain around the pole and start cranking. It'll come out.

That truck idea is kinda extreme! I had to to this a couple years ago at my parent's place as well. All I did was to remove the sod from the top. Dig a couple more inches down. Grab a handheld grinder, cut around, put the sod back on, done!

Mine was a clear cut. But if the cement inside your pole happens to be higher than your cut, you can wiggle and lift it, then break the cement with a hammer.

I climbed up to the top stuck in a tape measure and the cement is about 3" from the top...

I like the jack idea, otherwise it will be an angle grinder + sledgehammer.

I'll check in the morning if my Hi-Lift is where I left it, if it is you can borrow it.

As soon as I saw the title of the page I thought of your parent's house where we use to shoot hoops and bam it's you that needs this gone.

My parents wanted theirs gone so we dug it all up only to realize that there was a at least a 36" round blob of concrete holding the pole in place....... not only did it weight a couple hundred pounds but it also took up alot of space. And since we have nothing to backfill it with we just cut the metal pole at the base and rolled it over in its origonal hole and burried it haha. Done.

Use a grinder to cut a slot in the pole for the jack-all lift platform to fit into it. Make sure the jack-all is on a solid foundation, (I use a piece of header board, works great) and give' er. Even with a concrete footing it should come up. If you have to, use a 6' prybar and sledgehammer to wiggle the bar down around the concrete to loosen it a bit, should come up no problem. Done this a million times.

Umm, could you not just rent a jackhammer and jackhammer it out?
