Default Stolen Phone sold on Kijiji. Need advice

here is the short version of the story

about 5 months ago, I bought a phone off someone on kijiji. the phone was locked to telus and Im with rogers. so I bought it and tried to get it unlocked but couldnt unlock it. So I sold it on kijiji to another person

The other person was completely satisfied and didnt hear from him for a 5 months. till now. I got a call saying he sent his phone for repair to telus (under warranty) and they have informed him that it was stolen or activated on fraud and that a police report has been filed. They are asking him for my contact information so he called me to hear my end of the story before giving them the info.

What do I do here? besides tell them exactly what happened. Can they charge me or him?
They will probably ask me who I bought the phone off of, but I have no clue as its been 5 months and I dont keep people's numbers off kijiji

    any advice or tips?

from my understanding is that you can only be charge with receiving stolen property if you knew it was stolen. or were completely stupid about the situation like ignoring obvious signs.

I'd say file the police report, just be honest and likely nothing gunna happen to you.

Tell them the truth, itís the easiest thing to remember and the cops will appreciate that. Trust me you wonít get charged. Iíve filed in tandem with others against a million dollar scammer and the police did jack shit. If they donít; have time to go after someone like that, they sure as heck arenít going to care about a stolen phone.

I think in canada the onus is on you to prove that you didnt know it was stolen. its almost guilty until proven innocent with stolen goods

but i wouldnt be worried about something as small as a phone

It is easy to check if a phone is stolen, just call Telus, Rogers, etc BEFORE buying it. They will confirm if it is good or not. As it is, you will be needing to return the money made on selling the phone on Kijiji, if not, you sold stolen goods. Easy to prove you knew it was stolen as you did not take the three minutes to check the status. You look guilty and profited from selling stolen goods.

And yes the last owner of the hot phone is an idiot for not doing a check for legal ownership. But he is in the seat of power here.

You are looking bad here, offer to return the funds or it is going to get real ugly real quick.

This sort of scene happened to a co-worker, he bought rims and tires, went and resold them and was on the hook for being charged with holding and selling stolen goods. He paid the funds to the last owner and took the loss as he too did not have any contact information for the original seller. His lawyer said this was what was needed, so he did whatever it took, he was scared shitless being a P.Eng and risking a record and the baggage that comes with it. Now he will not buy anything used unless there is a solid paper trail.

game, set, match, sweet spoila brah
A Ferrari is a high maintenance chick, you spend money regardless of what you do with her. You can baby the C63, or slap on all seasons, and you won't be spending anything but yearly maintenance. Of course that's like dating a stripper and refusing to fuck her, which would make you gay.

I have no idea what you just said. Also don't dabble about your Japanese car mods. I don't understand them. I keep my cars stock and yes, it'll smoke your friend's car.
