Basically, how can I get the iPhone 4 for a decent price.
I got the 3GS about 7 months ago on a 2 or 3 year contract... but now, of course, I would like the 4.
How can I go about NOT paying 700 bucks for it?

Sell your 3gs, put money towards 4.

If you pay a decent monthly amount they are lenient ( I just destroyed the spelling on that?), last year I was able to get one even though I had a 3G for a year (to get 3gs)
ya... i might just negotiate my way to a good price. Been a customer for 15+ years and have 3 phones on the account.
You'll have a harder time because you've been on your current term for 7months only. They might have the yearly upgrade but that's still a bit out of your reach. This is with rogers I'm guessing.
GO FLAMES GO!
Negative, Telus.
Fido let me sign a new 3 year contract and let me get a 3GS for $199 and waived my $200 early cancellation fee for my old contract

The kind of people that watch the View and go "uh huh..." Those unfulfilled people who try to fill the void in their empty lives by writing whiny letters to the editor complaining about shit that no one really cares about?
Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
Ohh, I don't think telus has an early upgrade incentive in place, yet. Who knows if rogers will even do it this year?Originally posted by wardpr68

If all the preorders eat it up, white takes even longer...White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.
Fido waves the ECF when moving to fido from rogers AFAIK so rogers customers have a way to beat the system but Telus does not.
I would expect Rogers to offer early upgrades after the initial run, im sure we will see an early offer to upgrade if you are over 1 year in august. Under 1 year i don't see Rogers/Telus/Bell offering an early upgrade option.

Yea I saw that too. Pretty shitty, but then again, if we aren't getting them until 24th of July anyway...white's should be ready to go by then.Originally posted by scat330

My thought was that all the preorders will get filled first, then USA gets stocked up, then we're last = beyond July 24.Originally posted by shakalaka

it doesnt go by how long you had the plan, but by how much you paid in monthly bills. I upgraded early last year, and it was 250 instead of 200, plus a $25 early upgrade fee... so it was $75 more, about a year, or year and a half into my previous 3 year plan.

Effective August 21, 2009, a minimum tenure of 24 months since initial activation or last upgrade will be required before a customer is eligible to participate in the hardware upgrade program. This change aligns all upgrades (voice, voice to data and data to data) with the current data to data HUP policy. The updated HUP eligibility rule of 24 months minimum tenure since a customer’s last upgrade or activation date will be system enforced and no exceptions will be allowed.
Last year upgrading was decent. Now the 24 month rule applies regardless of your Tier (how much you spend) has come into effect and screwed over guys like me who have 800 a month cell phone bills.
However they have been known to make exceptions for Iphones, or retention calls.
