    Default Westjet lost a dog...

Just a heads up, read this on another forum. Westjet lost a Shiba Inu in Calgary while transferring it to a connecting flight.

Too bad as they use to be a good airline for shipping dogs... Dogs name is Ayumi, and is a red sesame (golden red colored) Shiba Inu.

Hope the link works, guess if you are in that area or work at the airport, park in the parking lots keep your eyes open. Best off not to chase the dog, just call the contact number and report the spotting.

I suck at linking, can someone post the ad or a screen shot on here? Thanks....

They still are a good airline for shipping dogs. The cage was most likely not locked properly is.

Poor shiba. Those guys can be escape artists.

I would never fly my dog unless I have no other choice.

My Shiba, Enzo used to jump the 6.5 ft fence in my back yard...they certainly ARE capable of escape.

The airport is completely gated off with a 9-ft fence. Dog's likely still in there somewhere.

If the crate fell apart it's more likely the owners fault. Poor little thing.

Wow, I have a shiba and i can also attest to their uncanny ability to escape. Thats sucks for the owners. Hope the little guy is found and ok.

The dog is probably in South America right now.

I have flown numerous dogs and have seen the baggage handlers drop crates before as the dog stands up and moves around when they are loading them, as well as put the crates on the moving luggage ramp up to the plane. IMO this should not be done and the dog should be put on the hydraulic lift with someone and then loaded into the bay on the plane....

My crate is either zip-tied all the way around or I put bolts with washer through all the extra holes to insure it does not come apart and I also bolt the door closed so there is not way for it to accidentally come apart. I don't board the plane until dead last as I wait and watch them load my dog first...

You would assume baggage handlers would handle a live animal differently but unfortunately that is not always the case.

Whatever happened, it sucks as it is accidents like these that make carriers not want to fly animals, as it is now Air Canada already tried once to stop flying them.

Dog was spotted on the runway, so it's still in the airfield. Hopefully they catch it soon!

This just in - A gas station pump overfilled a persons car by 1 litre, and a small puddle formed below the car!

It's the instant bashing of westjet, and how there "were" the best for dogs and now all of a sudden they suck. 1 incident. Beyond for you.

Its not like they lost a suit case or something... they lost a living animal. Generally, when dogs are "lost" on the runway they run for the hills... Considering this has happened before to other airlines and the amount of bad press it nets them, you think they would be a little more careful.

All I can say is at least it is summertime. The last dog an airline lost (Vivi the Whippet in NYC) was never found.

You have your opinion, I have mine.

It's stupid bashing an airline for a mistake that was out of their control, the owners kennel failed.

Get out of the box and think. Sure, I'm sad it was a dog, but whos to say someones suitcase wasn't as important or MORE important to them than a dog?

You're bashing of westjet, like I said before, is just typical.

Everyones tunnel logic here is just deadly.
