Default Ninjavideo and other sharing sites shut down in US sting

The sites had made pirated versions of 'Toy Story 3' and 'Iron Man 2' available within hours of their release in theaters. The crackdown is part of a renewed effort to curb film and TV piracy online.

Adding some swashbuckling to its tough talk on fighting piracy, the federal government on Wednesday seized several websites that had offered downloads of pirated movies such as "Toy Story 3" and "Iron Man 2" within hours of their release in theaters.

Federal authorities announced that they had seized domain names from nine websites engaged in the "criminal theft of American movies and television." The websites include TVShack.net, PlanetMoviez.com, ThePirateCity.org and Ninjavideo.net. Combined, the sites drew 6.7 million visitors a month, authorities said.

Officials also seized assets from 15 bank, investment and advertising accounts and executed residential search warrants in North Carolina, New York, New Jersey and Washington, according to a statement from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which coordinated its investigation with the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies.

Ninja had a good thing going. In the last year, they've really ramped up the number of movies they posted. I think if they'd stuck to TV they would have flown a bit more under the radar.

Hopefully they'll be back up soon under a different name.

Oh, I know. And lots of people do get it for free.

I, however, simply can't afford to fork out for Shaw's HD PVR (since I am a) a student and b) lacking an HD TV) so if I happen to be at work or whatever, I can easily watch my missed show later on. Same with F1, they always had the broadcast so I didn't have to get up at 3 am to watch it.

I pay for both my internet and cable, and I just want the ability to watch a show later without Shaw telling me that I can't because I won't pay them for a $400 box.

I'm surprised they lasted this long considering they were based in the US.

Seems like Obama is really cracking down on piracy.

Most were based in the Netherlands where they were a lot more relaxed on this kind of thing. Most of the contributors and admins are in the US though.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I was referring to Ninja which I thought was based in the US, no?

Ninja was hosted entirely in the Netherlands. Just the admins were in the US (and Canada...lots of the shows had the little Global logo in the corner).

Damn, Ninja was the only TV I actually watched. I have been having problems lately with ads interrupting my videos, but that's a small price to pay for quick-access TV. Hopefully they come back up soon.

The links are almost ALWAYS good, and quality is good. They also release some with 720p. Not that much bullshit popups/ads etc.

    Ninjavideo was the best.

    Fuck.

Yup, got rid of satellite after the NHL season as I always do because I have ninjavideo. This fucking sucks so bad. No other site is/was even close to as good for streaming television.

They also had a forum section where you could download comics.
