Wish I could answer this... I have heard both yes and no in terms of it being safe.
I personally would never try it myself on my leather seats, so I guess that's my answer haha. There are other ways to clean leather so yeah.

you can steam clean leather seats buit there is no point. A good steam cleaner pushes out HOT water and i dont think that will be good for the leather. you are better off cleaning them with a proper chemical and a rag.
I don't think it is good idea. There are a lot of mixed feelings about this on detailing forums. Personally, I think that the steam might be bit much. The leather can certainly handle the heat (just imagine leather on a hot sunny day) but how rapidly it opens and closes the pores is probably not good. That is just my personal opinion though.
