Surrey is kinda ghetto and a bit of a distance from Vancouver itself..

You should provide more info as well.. will be easier to give more suggestions.
Such as.. need transit access? near a certain workplace/school? etc...

Surrey is basically NE Calgary. However King George station is the first/last station from the area for the Skytrain which is about 40min from downtown East Van so it's prett convenient if you live close to the station.

Craiglist was a good site to use. that's what i used when i used to live there.

Surrey isn't bad if you pick a decent area of it to reside, like South Surrey. I wouldn't recommend living anywhere near the King George SkyTrain station though... that's a pretty seedy area.

My aunt and uncle bought a townhouse off 196th on the Surrey/Langley border. Quite nice. Lots of apartment condo's and townhouses so I am sure you could rent. Not a lot of crime, seems like all working families. There is a 15 minute shuttle to King George. If you drive though it will take you 1.5 hours at rush hour to get into Burnaby (aunt works near BCIT) each way.

2 bedroom in Burnaby is going to run you around 1600/1800 near a Skytrain station.

yeah we both drive , so probably wont be taking the skytrain at all, and we have a small child, so a place that doesnt have alot of crime.
