WOW
so apparently, rogers Captivates have some dissimilar script from an AT&T captivate (which most of the rooting tutorials for Captivates go by) that's why absolutely none of the standard rooting methods worked at all, but cut through all the BS and 2 hours of confusion i rooted my Rogers i897 with 'SuperOneClick Method', if any Rogers Captivate ppl want to root, follow these instructions, i had to go so far as to the last one in the troubleshooting section to download PDAnet, supposedly the USB cables poor quality was the problem for me:

Part of the reason for the Captivate delay on Rogers? Samsung branded them AT&T? Guess they didnt catch them all.. LOL

Does anyone know how to turn on a notification for low battery? This thing keeps dying in my pocket and I have no idea. I just want it to tell me when my battery is low.

I welcome the next official update, but last night I "upgraded" to the latest DocRom, it's awesome so far.
Hopefully I will be able to grab the Telus Fascinate later today!

There is no LED to utilize for notifications but there is a app called NOLed which displays small icons on your screen and doesn't kill the battery.Originally posted by Canadian 2.5RS

Official froyo update mid December, for both Bell Vibrant and Rogers Captivate. Next year for Telus Fascinate.

Samsung Mobile Canada We’d like to acknowledge the tremendous interest in the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for Galaxy S series smartphones in Canada. We are working diligently to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada. Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for the Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available.
Easy guide to update your Bell Vibrant to JK3 (Froyo)

The Kies registry hack was showing me the update to Froyo but would not connect, some have got it to work. I used ODIN and am now on Froyo. If a newb like me can do it anyone can. Now hopefully this POS does not die again. Even people updating through Kies are experiencing dead phones. Big reason why Bell/Samsung are holding the update back, they know there will be a shit load of dead Galaxy S phones when the update goes out. They are probably stocking up and waiting for the repair backlog to clear.
*edit...
Impressions so far.
Overall the phone is smoother. Some nice additions. However.. Browser is not as smooth as it was, scrolling even on non flash sites is not as smooth as it was. Also the GPS is still fucking useless. Fuck you Samsung and your shit phones.

Yup, I am on JK3 as well and I agree, the browser is chunky and laggy, GPS is no better either.
I find the screen brightness is almost always dimmer than it used to be, and battery life is slightly worse, even though I don't seem to have any of the sensors or partial wake battery usage issues people are reporting.
My friend updated his i9000M to JK3 last wednesday/thursday, and on friday the flash in his phone died and he had to return it.

What issues are you guys having with GPS? I used mine on the weekend and it worked flawlessly. My phone is still stock, no modification.

Mine takes between 4 and 25 minutes to get a lock, even outside away from buildings on a clear day. If I use GPS test apps it will get one satellite, with excellent signal then drop it and grab another, then go back to the first, repeat ad naseum.
In Google Maps it will claim to know your position but it is obviously network based not GPS based as it is typically between 100m and 10km off. I live in Royal Oak, and sometimes it shows me way the fuck over in Hidden Valley.
