Exclamation LF: Warehouse workers. $18/hr to start, full benefits. FT, great room for advancement

Hey guys, these guys are going on a hiring blitz over the next two weeks, so be sure to drop off your resume' if you're interested.
The address is 10401 46th St. SE Calgary, AB
(just NE of the Deerfoot Inn & Casino); off of 106th ave.)
Its in the Millard refrigerated services building.
The company is called SCM: of which is the acronym for Supply Chain Management. This division handles the perishable goods for Walmart (western) Canada. There is a similar division out in Mississauga, that handles the food for Manitoba to out east.
The pay is $18/hr to start, with full benefits after you finish your probation.
Its a 4 on, 4 off schedule, meaning obviously its not fixed.
However with that; the work is 11.5 hour days. The schedule is great for summer obviously, since you can do WHATEVER in your 4 days off.
The only downside; you're working in a refrigerated environment, meaning about 1.0c. Thankfully they supply all your "winter" clothing.
    There are three shifts
    5:00am-4:30pm
    6:30am-6:00pm
    9:00am-8:30pm
You (at the moment) can work as much overtime as you like. If you want to come in for 6 days a week, go ahead since they can definitely use the help.

    The requirements are
-Must be punctual, if you are commonly late, dont bother applying, seriously.
    - Must be 18 or over
    - Must be hardworking and committed to getting the job done right... the first time
    - Must be results driven.
    - Must not be looking for a slack job to which you're paid to stand around and chit chat, go work for the City of Calgary if you want that, as that isn't here.
    - Should have reliable transportation. Hitching a ride with other people doesn't work since you're dependent on them for transportation.
    - Must be willing to work weekends (obviously since the shift is 4 on, 4 off)

IF all ^ is you, please stop on by and have a talk with Lila or Adam (the HR team). They'd be happy to hear from you.
Be sure to go over your math skills for the tough skill testing questions of the application.

There is a new 400,000ft3 building being built right behind the CrossIron Mills that will house the operations as of mid to late Sept this year. There is an incredible room for advancement to the right individuals, as staff will triple by that time frame.

SCM is a part of the company I work for. This is a great opportunity for people to get into one of the largest corporations in the world. Definitely a place to be considered by anyone job seeking.

My boss recently visited the other Walmart site in Calgary (non refridgerated) and it is apparently very impressive from a logistics point of view. I can't imagine the new facility will be any less so.

You mean the 1 million ft2 warehouse?

I'd love to check that out. I hear its just surreal, conveyor belts everywhere obviously. Seeing this 400k ft2 place seems amazingly big, but 1million ft2? wow..

5am shift is receiving, usually people aren't hired directly on for this. Instead they're hired for the 6:30/9:00am shift, of which is Order picking/filling. Once they're familiar with that in all its entirety then people are eligible for for moving up to the 5am shift, which is quite a bit more technical as it comes down to a good share of product knowledge and using computers.

What Order picking/filling is, is basically they take a pallet with labels that has to go to various stores(/skids) that all lined up down an isle. Its merely putting the item on the store skid, then moving on to whatever other stores down the isle those products have to go to. Its extremely straight forward.

The 9:00shift is more or less for the loaders. There is no product that stays in the warehouse as each day the food is brought in/received, picked then after the pick is done the store skids are wrapped then everything is shipped back out to the various stores.

The thing is; is there are a lot of other positions that come available as well.... such as currently two I.T. positions.
There have been (very recently) other positions such as Q.A. (Quality Assurance) and transportation personnel as well. So there are tons of things available to the right candidates.

My facility is only 10k ft2. My mind boggles at the thought of these places.

I've already done extensive night work for over a year now so that is little worry to me. Living in Airdrie the drive would for obvious reasons would be costly. But what is the deal with the new place behind Cross Iron? Is all the staff moving over there this fall or only people intrested in working in the new location? That would be perfect for me then, I would be working right next to home, I could do the drive to Calgary for a couple months.

My understanding is that everything is moving to the new location. I honestly didn't even know there was an old location. I'm not involved with that contract/site at all though so I may be wrong...

Yes the current location is rented through Millard Refrigerated services, hense the current location is in their building. A new 400,000 ft2 facility is being built right behind the crossiron mills in Balzac. Currently towards the manner of sustaining operations for the distribution for Walmart; all operations are currently held at the Millard facility, to which a small portion of the facility is being leased to SCM.
Once its done it'll be the most self-sustaining building in the world, as well as the only building to use Hydrogen powered equipment exclusively. Everything will be reused on site, whereas numerous natural occuring light & energy sources will be used for power. There will be a wind turbine on site as well.
So naturally there will be countless tours being given to companies from around the globe when its done.
Its quite an opportunity to be a part of this in all reality, as its ecological footprint will be minuscule despite how truly massive this building is. Definitely a huge step towards the future. The next closest building will be the Distribution center for Walmart down in Brazil, obviously providing the produce for South America. Its already been built, and has been proven to be a complete success. Now they're making countless improvements and kicking things up by quite a notch for this facility.

Would you let a new hire work 80+ hours / week?

Dont waste your time then No loss to the company to be sure, as there are PLENTY of people in Calgary that would be nuts over this.

I have applied at places before and as soon as they see I have a record they tell me to hit the streets, so my question was and still is do they care if I have a criminal record?
