Default China Bus drives over cars

China to build huge buses that can drive over cars

Developers in China have come up with a paradoxical, environmentally-sound solution to speed up traffic: add more buses.

According to Engadget, the Shenzhen Huashi Future Parking Equipment company is developing a 3D Express Coach that will allow smaller cars to drive underneath it.

Dubbed the 'straddling bus,' the light-rail trains will stand 4-4.5 metres high with two levels. Passengers will board the upper level while smaller vehicles lover than 2 metres can drive right through.

Powered by electricity and solar energy, the bus can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h and carry 1200-1400 passengers at a time without standing in other vehicles' way. Each bus will cost $500 million yuan (approximately $73 million).

Construction of the first 115 miles of track will begin in Beijing's Mentougou district at the end of 2010.

To learn more about the project, and to watch the official unveiling by Song Youzhou, the chairman of Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment, visit China Hush.

Saw this and concept looks cool but practically is the most retarded design ever.

Cars and trains should never share the road. Just take our C-Train as an example.

It will be awesome for cover from hail storm.

But then once you are under the thing, you might not be able to get out.

I don't know what to think about the rest of the picture. Does China think everyone else who isn't riding this terrestrial catamaran will be driving SUV's or sportscars?

I only see one shitbox in that picture that realistically will be around if this concept ever takes off (top left corner).

What great new transport idea have we here in North America come up with in the last 50 years?
props to them on innovation and trying to come up with new solutions. once it is a more widespread technology people will adapt to it.

That thing is like 12 car lengths long an 2 cars wide in the concept pic, and it's only one floor level it looks like.

The real thing must be pretty big to fit 1200-1400 ppl.

    FLAW:

What if there is a truck higher than 2 m on the road? It's not like the bus is gonna smash through anything higher than 2 m. Dumb idea, I can see a lot of accidents happening with a 2 m high limit.
