Winnipeg Police Service have instated "Random" VIU (Vehicle Inspection Units) checkstops throughout the city. Harassment like none other. Lets hope this program gets thrown in the garbage...Its apparently ruined the standard Sunday Night Cruises which the city has had for years.

Every little thing including windshield washer fluid...ticket and lots of cases ppl get towed. Even OEM lights and seatbelts are getting tickets.

I went to a wpg car show about 5 years ago with a highly modified car, I voluntarily allowed the cops to inspect it and they found a bunch of things, tint and no horn and too low etc. but no ticket just info on what is legal and what is not. I even ended up winning a raffle for a set of wheels and tires from a raffle entry I was given for getting my car inspected.

It seems the times have changed.

I have jammers on my A6. They are, of course, legal here in AB. I have heard horror stories of guys who, in good faith, disconnect the heads of their jammers when traveling in provinces where they are illegal. Disconnecting the heads renders them useless of course. Is not like they can be removed. My heads are fixed with an epoxy to ensure they always remain level and straight, as are most others. Of course you can't just remove them. Anywho, guys get stopped in ON or MB for "random inspections" get called on the jammers. "They are non-functioning" says un-named guy and shows the cop that his heads are disconnected. Ticket anyways. And in ON, they tow the car as it is illegal to TRANSPORT a speed detection device. Does not matter if it’s not within reach of the driver to re-connect it. Radar detector in the trunk? It’s smashed. Disconnected jammer heads? Cop cannot remove them on the side of the road? Car impounded and jammers "stripped" out by a person who could care less about your car. Only way a speed detection device can be moved in ON is if you are the fed-ex man and have a waybill to prove purchase and delivery from another province.

It’s a touch extreme in my opinion. Hell, I get caught running my jammers in ON then, yeah, I deserve it. I knew the law and disobeyed. But if they are disabled and cannot be turned on without popping the hood? Please. It would be lame if it was a ticket but the car getting towed? Woa. Hence, I don’t travel to Ontario.
