    Default Dog collar video camera?

Anyone know of a way to build - or just buy, a dog collar video camera?

Our dogs have been going houdini on us lately - pretty much daily occurrence suddenly.

I've gone through the yard with a fine tooth comb, there's no holes in the fence to the outside... Only thing I can think - is over the composter over the back fence - but that makes no sense because that neighbour has a dog... Spoke to them, they haven't seen our dogs in their yard...

Starting to wonder if they're getting help; I really can't see a way for them to be getting out...

They wont do it when we're out of course...

You could attach a spy camera to a nylon collar. They have an ok range, and the receiver would plug into any RCA-enabled device. (Ie: VCR)

Might be expensive for this use, but my friend uses one of these snowboarding. They're really durable, light, and small enough you could attach it to most dogs collars. I think they're 300ish and sell them at cross iron mills.

Hey, I had a neighbor who was a total cock. The type of guy that the entire street was plotting against because he was some loudmouth asshole, as were his asshole little kids. He would let everyones dogs out of the yard when people were at work. He was just an angry old ethnic fellow. People put locks on the gates. He eventually got caught by some gnarly russian dude who put him in the hospital.

This actually would be pretty sweet. My dog goes for some epic journeys for days at a time. I wouldn't mind seeing what is going on...

but it only takes pics every 1- 15 mins which is pretty irregular, to see your dogs jump out why not get a usb camera or IR motion detecting on the suspected spot to see if they're really running away from that spot

It hasn't been through the gates - screwed one shut when this started, the other one isn't locked - but also can't be opened without making a HUGE racket (dogs pile up the landscaping rocks against it saying hi to their friends in the park - usually takes a rake and 5 minutes to relocate all that rock away so you can get it open enough to get the lawnmower through...

Might have to try the motion webcams, could do that with just 2 existing cameras...

Very frustrating to go let the dogs in, find them not in the back yard - and usually only one is at the front door when you head out to start the hunt...

If you just want to know where he goes, but sacrifice sight, a gps tracker can show you where he goes and is a little more robust than a camera

Moved one of the security cams to the back, of course no houdini's since I did it... Not sure a GPS would do much good; don't typically have the resolution - yeah it'll show me the dogs are in the backyard, then not, but mine's not near accurate enough to show which part of the yard they might be escaping from...

    Your dog is mocking you.

What type of fence do you have? What breed of dogs? Some breeds are VERY adept at climbing.

Fence, typical 4' city owned chainlink on the side, 7' privacy on the other two sides.

Dogs, Cody is a genuine alberta prairie dog (looks like a GSD but 20lbs full grown) Yup he could clear the fence anytime he wanted. But generally doesn't - just when the coyotes come to visit - then he decides he needs to go play. Then we find him sitting at the front door waiting to come in (he always comes home PDQ, unless someone tries to 'help').

Pepper is a gimpy (had a FCE spring '09, left with some paralysis on the right side) Pyrenees x (collie/lab) - She can't even get into my truck without help - clearing a fence isn't happening for her - this is why I wonder about them getting helped out of the yard...

Didn't mask the camera in any way - right on the corner of the roof; wondering if that might have convinced someone to stop f*cking around.

If the camera was in the front before, wouldn't you potentially be able to see whoever was letting your dogs out walk up? Unless they came in through the back.

Camera wasn't aimed down the side of the house (city park on one side) one aimed at the front door, other covered our parking spots.
