Can oil still be extracted from below a glass parking lot?

Are you kidding? Think how much easier it'll be to drive the machines to the well sites!

Meh, that's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, especially considering that what's actually recoverable can range from 10 - 40% typically.

Definitely no where near enough to pay for the military intervention and rebuilding of the country.

Not to mention that this is probably not even a new discovery.

Chances are 80% of it can't even be recovered and then is the issue with transporting the oil out of a mountainous and landlocked country.

China and India will be lined up to buy that oil. Not much issue with transport when your two biggest buyers are next door.

With all that Lithium they found too Afghanistan might be findings itself on the path to not being the poorest nation on Earth, which is good for them.

considering that the US just prints money to pay for its military, I doubt they have any plans of 'paying back' the cost of any of the military interventions for oil The point is just to have access to the oil period.

But then again this is only 1.8 billion barrels. Call me when you find 200 billion and you might have a story.

The discovery of the basin between northern Balkh and Shiberghan provinces was made after a survey conducted by Afghan and international geologists, said Jawad Omar, a spokesman for the ministry of mines.
This to me reads like they just did a seismic evaluation and haven't actually drilled anything yet. How do they even know the oil can be recovered economically?? Not even news worthy propaganda.
