Aside from progressive scan, which is only useful if your TV supports, there isn't much diff. Though DVD support is probably better.
Either way, better wait or start saving for the new Playstation X

i think there MIGHT be a slight improvement on the disc drive, reading wise. cause i read on the gamespot forum that some people have to get their ps2s sent back for some problem about the ps2 not being able to read discs
There is a main difference if you are planning to use your PS2 as a DVD player. The new PS2 includes the version that lets you use the Remote Control for the DVD player. The older versions requires you to load that driver to one of your memory cards. Not a big deal, but the driver takes up 2MBs which sucks.
Or you can buy a seperate DVD player since you can get them cheaper than a PS2 now!
Too bad you can't play PS2 games on it though!
You can pick up an Apex Standalone player for like $60, so the playstation aspect of the PS2 would come to $130......good way to justify buying a $200 PS2. That's what I used when I bought my PS2 some years back, lol
So I can take it not worth it to buy a new PS2 to replace the old PS2?! Assuming I use something else to play DVD.
Actually I am looking for a decent DVD player. The one I use does funny things.
its an interpolation method that lets u get the true # of scanning lines on each frame of the video. it is better than interlaced, which gives u every other scanning line in alternating sequences of each frame.Originally posted by Wildcat

The 'new progressive scan' on the new PS2 is for the DVD movie side. Which is pointless, as most DVD players already have progressive scan.
PS2 gaming already support progressive scan.
You just need the TV to support it.
