Anyone know the best place to shop for contemporary fireplaces?
Something similar to this?

Damn I wish I remember the name of the place in the SE I looked. Ecoflame or something like that. They had some cool stuff - though most of it was not of a perfectly uniform "strip" design like you showed in the picture.
I looked into all this, and it is actually surprisingly easy to make something like that. But then, when you're risking burning down your house then perhaps "tinkering around" isn't the best course of action...
You're probably referring to Bioflame.Originally posted by Kloubek

Hearth Fireplace Depot on Memorial Drive
I just finished completely renovating my place. I wanted something contemporary with the glass crystals and the linear look to it. I went around to a number of different places and got quotes. The cheapest guy was Hearth on Memorial. He was also the quickest.
Below is a couple pics of my place. All in, including install, disposal of the crappy old one and the permit was 3k.
Awesome place man.
Looking for a new VW? How about a used vehicle? We are Central Albertas #1 source for pre-owned vehicles
I will beat any deal on a new VW for beyonders
Gary Moe Volkswagen/Gary Moe Used Car Superstore!
Red Deer, AB
Thanks,
looks like Hearth is the place. They sell Montigo fireplaces which is exactly what I'm looking for.
All the fireplace companies sell montigo here. For anything super custom, you will pay an arm and a leg for.
Nice things usually do.Originally posted by dannie

^ So true...
Oh... and the montigo stuff comes with river rock kind of things. If you are looking for the glass, you can buy it by the pound at Diamond Fireplace in the NE. I took the river rocks out and filled it with the crystals. It gives the place a bit more of a glow with them.
Wow Dannie. Gorgeous place! I could go without the hanging crystals, but each to their own. Overall, extremely clean, contemporary design.
^ Thanks.... I'm a girl so the crystals work for me
I just got off the phone with Hearth fireplaces, LOL, they want $21,000.00 for a 7' wide fireplace.
What a joke!
I think I'm gonna have a chat with a local welder/fabricator, because thats abosolute highway robbery.

The crazy thing is, they are the cheapest out of the companies. I was looking at a custom one so that it went the entire length of the wall that you see in that pic, different surround etc and they wanted ~14k.Originally posted by 89coupe

I just got off the phone with a fabricator and he can build what I want for a fraction of that cost.
They are raping stupid people with too much money. You can buy a brand new car for that price...LOL.
This is just a rectangular box made of steel...LOL.
I'm laughing my ass off at anyone who would spend that kind of money on such a simple product.
^^ Agreed. When I looked at the design, it is exactly that. A metal box. If I had welding skills, I'd be making a killing making and selling these for 1/3 of the price!
Dannie: If you're a chick, then the crystals make a lot more sense!
Just an update. Building a custom unit ended up being stupid expensive, we are talking over $20k after getting it CSA approved.
After a bunch of back and forth debating we ended up going with this unit.
