Serato sl1 to Macbook pro recording help

I purchased a 3.5mm (1/8") to 6.35mm (1/4") cord today to connect my Serato SL1 to my Macbook pro. I have the (1/4") cord plugged into the "mic thru" port on my serato and the other end into my audio input jack on my laptop. When i try to Record through Serato the mic gain will not pick up anything coming from Serato. I switched my audio output jack to an audio input jack and nothing seems to be working. Is there something i am missing or have over looked? I have been trouble shooting for almost an hour and looking things up online and can not for the life of me figure out what i am doing wrong. Please help, i am so close to recording my mixes and would greatly appreciate any help or insight offered.

I use a free program called Audacity to record while using Serato.

I connect the record out from the mixer to the mic jack on my macbook pro. Try using an output from the mixer instead of connecting the serato box to the mic in.

Thanks a lot for the advice, i tried recording from my mixer into Audacity and it works great! really appreciate it.
