    Default Timing Chain rattle

So now that the car is up and running I've been trying to fine tune all the little bugs. Well I fired it up on Sunday and went to back out of the garage. Once I got out into the alley the timing chain started rattling like crazy, so I gave it a couple revs and the rattling went away for the time being. Moved it back into the garage as I wasn't sure if it was safe to be driving, and the sound had come back. Couple more revs and it went away.

The motor is an Sr20det S14 Kouki Blacktop with maybe 50,000 kms give or take.

Sounds like the chain is hitting the Chain Guide, but I wanted to seek advice on if the chain or maybe just the tensioner needs replacing, thanks guys!

    haha the tensioner is this

change that before you do anything else, because the rest involves the front cover off, which effectively means head comes off. The tensioner is changed outside the block, literally takes 10 minutes

Thanks Zenki! I'll order one and get that put in asap

no I know that, but I was thinking of just going with this:
    http://www.frsport.com/OE-Complete-T...ET_p_1351.html

Replace everything while I'm in there.

the timing chain tensioner takes minutes to replace. if you really want to change all the parts, it'll take you a good 5-6hrs if you know what your doing.

just buy OEM nissan tensioner, not that stuff from FRsport as they arent OEM nissan.

    .
when i did mine, because i had the whole front timing cover off, i actually got a whole front end seal kit (ask Mike at Brasso if he still works there, he'll know) and replaced all of the seals while i was in there, why the hell not right?.

if your timing guides are the same OEMs from factory, youll be happy to see in the picture that the guides (infiniti G20 OEM stuff iirc) are backed by a metal base, i remember taking mine out and seeing both were made of all plastic, putting the metal backed ones give a little more piece of mind but i doubt i'll own my SR to the length that they need replacing again.
