Default 100% Testout - Toyota Corolla Disable DRL & Auto Amb. Light Sensor System

I am not sure if i post this at the wrong department, but I think this post should belong to here.

To Mod, If possible, please close the exact same one in the Mechanical department for me.

    Thank you.

    Hey Guyz,

I have been done 2 months of researches to finally take out my courage and do it. (refer to Disable DRL)

I took my step by step photographic on this matter and I would love to share this with everyone that want to do this.

    1. Perpare tools, it requires "Electrical Tape, Wire Cutter, Flash Light, Solder Gun & Solder"

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3811.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    2. Go into your car and located the Bottom Glove Box

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3821.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    3. Open up and Empty the Glove Box department

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3831.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    4. Located this Lever

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3841.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    5. Pull this Lever outward to open up the Glove Box a bit more

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3851.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    6. Push both side of the Glove Box to let it slide out

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3861.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    7. After this step, you will be able to see the inside of the componment

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3871.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    8. Look to your right side of the componment, you will see the connector.
You would want to "pull" this out, this would require you to push in the middle part and use a little force and pull it out.

    9. Once you pull it out, you will see alot of wire and you want to located #12 wire.

Here is the diagram of how the wires are layout
    [01]
    [02]
    /////////////
    [03][12]
    [04][13]
    [05][14]
    [06][15]
    [07][16]
    [08][17]
    [09][18]
    [10][19]
    [11][20]
    /////////////

01 and 02 are the large wire
#12 are the blue wire. From the above image, you can see that I had cut that wire and use the electrical tape and tape it up. *note* Don't cut the wire too short, in case in the future you would want to re-connect.

There, now You have disable your DRL and auto Amb. light sensor system.

Here are ways to know if you did it correctly. Just turn the light from off to low beam to high beam.

Car is on, and no light

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3891.jpg?rev=0 </B>
Just the side light and back light are on

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3901.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    Low Beam On

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3911.jpg?rev=0 </B>
Low Beam On with Fog Light On

    http://photoshare.shaw.ca/image/0/e/...3921.jpg?rev=0 </B>
    High Beam On

There, now you have it. Now you can control your headlight without the Auto Sensor controlling it for you.

Now my car is ready for install HID Kit, I am now starting to do research on how to install the HID myself, if at the end, I don't feel too comfortable to do it myself, then I will bring it to other. But for sure will post step by step again on how to do the Installation on the HID Kit.

    Thank you for reading.

PS. I also want to give credit to some of the peoples that I had read off their post and information.
Thank you to Toyota N@tion - BIG J for giving overview on how to disable it (without pic)
Thank you to Toyota N@tion - SE-Rious for giving the wires layout of the connector

you have to disable DRLs to put in HIDs?

or is this to have the options of turning on different lights as opposed to OEM ALL lights on when dark?

Your second point is what he's after, I think.

I think the intention is that by disabling the DRL - the HID's won't come on as soon as you turn on your vehicle, so you have the ability to turn them on when you want (IE ballast/bulb life)

Same goes if you have foglights - some want the foglight on look w/o DRL...

I believe that, it would be best to Disable the "Auto Amb. light Sensor System" prior to install HID, and the only way to do it, is the method I have mention above.

While you are disabling the Auto Amb. Light Sensor System, you have to disable the DRL for this.

If you dont disable this sensor system, and installed the HID kit, everytime when you start your car at night, it will automatic turn your ballast on and if you have A/C MAX on and Radio on, it will drain alot of current from the power supply and either your car may not start smoothly or you will experience flickering issue with the headlight or worst of all, reduce the lifespan of the ballast.

Hope this explain why I would need to do this DIY.
