I have zero internet in douglasdale since last night, while previous to that I was having the same dropping issues. Most definitely on Shaw's side as a few other friends of mine around the SE are also having connection issues.

Lol, I'm a moron and see that this thread is not with regards to anything recent such as the issues I am currently experiencing.
i live in castleridge and it all goes out phone internet and digital cable out for a couple of seconds the back on really annoying

This is what I am experiencing.
Latency/Request time outs, this is initially what happens.
Not on wireless
Able to ping gateway during issue, not an internal network issue.
Shaw modem auto resets and cable light flashes for 30 seconds. Connection re-establishes.
During the outage, unable to ping or trace external IP.
Tested with ping IP -t, before complete outage, experience latency and packet loss issues then connection completely drops.
This is 100% a Shaw network problem.
Actually those symptoms are indicative of an RF signal issue. Call 310-SHAW so they can look at your signal levels/noise/errors and correct as necessary.Originally posted by SmAcKpOo

If you've done your own wiring (cheap rusty Radio Shack crap, expensive Monster crap, RG59 wiring with screw-on F-connectors, etc) or live in a new home with one of those crappy 16-way HomeWhatever taps at the panel, that's most likely the problem There's plenty of other MDU wiring (apartment buildings) and weather related (corroded connectors, rotting cables, mis-adjusted amps without temperature-compensated AGCs) potential issues which complaining on the interwebs won't fix.
Also squirrels. Seriously the coax cladding must be infused with peanut oil...
I have this problem for a long time. I have the 100Mb plan.
Losing the web connection momentarily is a bit annoying when surfing. The windows 7 machine reconnects without too much trouble. The older XP machine always requires a reboot to connect again.
The real problem for me is VoIP. I loose the call although the Vonage device is connected by cable to the shaw modem and the phone handset is a wire connection to the vonage device.
Is there a way to monitor and record the signal drops? Shaw certainly is not going to do it.
I am exactly like Tim, I cut out maybe 1-5 times every 15 minutes and I am starting to get furious...
For location sakes, I am in the NW. This also recently started approx. 2 weeks ago.
Hell, even when Shaw had that fire I got better internet. I am beginning to think if I have reached my "limit" that they have recently imposed and 200GB of transfer? That does not sound like a lot for a month.
For all those saying that maybe we fucked up on our end, how do you explain that I was having great internet before and now its like dropping me and timing out all the time.
I for one have not tweaked anything since then, and I've had Shaw for like 15+ years at the same location. If the other members also have had this problem without tweaking anything, it sounds logical to assume Shaw is likely responsible for this.

I'm not having any issues ever, i'm in Hidden Valley. I must be lucky
Quite possibly, weather and corrosion are common issues, especially now that it's getting colder so amplifiers need adjusting and condensation in the connectors/cables becomes an issue. If you've had Shaw in the same location for 15yrs, your aerial drop will probably be old RG59 that is rotting/cracked, or your underground drop will at the very least require new connectors. A quick call to Shaw allows them to look at your modem's signal level/quality history and send a service tech out, at no cost to you, to have a look at and correct any issues.Originally posted by [Yu]

Having said that, if I had a dime for every time someone told me "but nothing has changed!", only for me to find that they moved their modem (internet no work, durrr), parent/spouse changed services, or added an outlet (with aforementioned Radio Shack splitter/wiring), or the neighbors got satellite (and the installer used/split/spliced the Shaw lines), or they just got a new TV (with a $400 Monster power conditioner that disrupts two-way comms for their cablebox) or they didn't even bother resetting their router (on a business account, at a small independent wireless ISP!), I'd have a sock full of dimes to beat their stupid asses with
Beyond that, Shaw's distribution, hubsites and fiber ring are actually quite excellent infrastructure, with fine-grained monitoring by the NOC, mostly thanks to their BigPipe clients and their associated SLAs. There have been congestion issues before, but ALL of the issues mentioned in this thread sound very much last-mile, except downtown fire-related

I am cutting out periodically too, although I don't think its shaw, for me its the latest mac os update. I turn on and off my wifi and its back. more annoying than anything.

Haha, didn't know that many people have so much minor issues like that! Well I'll give Shaw a call when I get back in the near future.

My Shaw internet is awesome in the day, and sucks in the evenings! Not sure the reason, but its almost unusable at night. I'm on broadband 50 too. I've called they say its probably interference from my neighbours.
Same here having issues here, wireless always disconnecting. I believe it's an issue with the POS modem/router they gave me.
This right here was my problem when I ditched shaw. At night, all the kids come home and start streaming porn, and since its all shared, it slows down other people big time if the area is congested. I had this issue in evergreen where I couln't go past 160kb/s in the evening, but easily push 1.5MB/s during the day. Switched to telus since and been much happier. Also my connection would drop out as well once a week at least, didn't work so well when wife was doing online nursing quizes for her nursing schoolOriginally posted by rony_espana

The wirless router in the combo modem they give you is horrible. First thing I did was get them to put it in bridge mode, and use my own Asus router. World of difference, reception and speed wise. Make the call, and get your own router set up.Originally posted by G-ZUS

My BB50 is starting to get a bit crappy on certain sites. Sites like youtube occasionally choke hard and it can barely play the lower quality videos. Been too lazy to call into shaw to figure out wtf is wrong though because it doesn't happen often enough.

Yep there's definitely some congested nodes out there, probably should've mentioned that in my rant. The shitty thing is the CSR/TSR's can look at the graphs for the exact node/channels your modem is on and know right away, but they will never tell you that your "peak time slowdowns" are because Shaw oversells like mad, especially with the new packages. The good news is they do monitor the congestion and split nodes, eventually...
I just moved to the area (Ranch Estates) and got the same problem. It's very frustrated, Shaw already sent a tech guy to come and did not fix it. They sent another guy out today, not sure what they will do.Originally posted by [Yu]
