Default Why are people so opposed to the gun registry?

I don't understand why some people are so opposed to the gun registry? (I didn't grow up in Canada, so I don't really know the history, etc.) However, from what I read on wikipedia, it just seems as if gun owners need to register their guns. Why is this such a big deal?

Do a search, there were 2 very recent threads here discussing it at length. The only people opposed to it are the ones who don't even have the slightest clue how it works. It's a "big deal" because of how much money it costs to do literally nothing.

Bonus Reason: At one point they found that criminals had hacked the registry and could find out the addresses people who owned legal guns so they could steal them.
I understand numbers 2 and 3, but how does the registry punish people with guns? If I had a gun, I would actually like to have it registered (might be easier to trace if it gets stolen or something???).

If it gets stolen, all the registry would do is mark it as such. Someone with your gun can still commit a crime with it, possibly harming someone with your gun. So the police will know it was your firearm that was used in a crime, but the crime still happened, so it didn't prevent anything.

Here's another tidbit against it. Bill C-68 allows "inspectors" to search any place they suspect has a legal "gun collection" or a record of a "gun collection" Normally, homes cannot be searched without suspicion of a crime, nd now that they have a record of your gun collection, they can come inspect your home whenever they feel like. "Inspection" provisions also allow seizure of property and computer data even where there is no suspicion of any crime.

So if you have a registered gun. The police can walk into your home whenever they feel like, and take your shit, legally, for no reason.

This isn't the US. If you shoot someone tresspassing on your property, you will go to jail.

Not if you can prove your life was in immediate danger. In Canada, however, if you shoot a trespasser and DON'T kill them, they can sue you and win, even if they were robbing you or whatever.

The difficulty is proving your life was in immediate danger, because it would be hard to know that for sure until it was too late.

If you shot someone who came into your home, kill them, and it was reasonable to assume your life was in immediate danger, you don't go to jail. I think there was recently a case in BC where this happened.

Also learned that in law class. So to be safe it's best to finish them off. Just too risky to leave them alive...

Bill 6-68 is the firearms act. It is not only the long gun registry. It encompasses alot more than that. Even if the registry was abolished, wouldn't "inspectors" still be able to conduct a warrant-less search? For a legal gun owner with a PAL to purchase a firearm there are records of said purchase in store. Permission is still needed from the Canadian firearms Center to transfer ownership of a firearm. So in essence even with the registry abolished "inspectors" would still be able to know a person has a firearm in his/her home. So what I'm asking is how would the registry being canceled directly stop warrant-less searches?

(For the record I am in favor of scrapping the gun registry, I am just asking the question for clarification.)
