    Default Another Maui/Hawaii Picture Thread

There have been a couple of recent Maui photo posts, but I didn't want to pollute anyone's thread with my photos.

I went to Hawaii for personal reasons and not for photography so my focus was not on getting good photos. Regardless, I managed to capture some nice snapshots. Mix of Maui and the Big Island.

Did you get any shots of the cliffs on the east side of the lava fields?? Not often we see people going to big island taking pretty pictures lol.

I am not certain of the area you are referring to. I was only on the Big Island for a couple of Days. We drove to the Champagne Pond area (pic attached), and walked a bit on the "active" lava fields, but didn't have time to to walk all the way to the ocean.

Basically the area i'm talking about is the road where the lava has blocked the road and it's now part of the park. People usually park there and do the 2 mile hike to get as close as they can. On the right hand side though you can take a short 5 minute walk right up to the cliffs where the signs even say "stay away" lol.

Some very cool stuff around the lava fields though. I got a permit this year where I should be allowed to get up close and personal

Only if pictures could smell you might now say that lol. The lava fields have a not so pleasant smell lol.

If you can find lava flowing on the surface you can get amazing pictures. We saw the Laval flowing into the ocean at night and it was quite a sight. We inquired about areas to see lava flowing on the surface, but got mixed messages about there not being any at this time other than at the ocean, and other that said their might be, but only at inaccessible locations. Having only 2 1/2 days we didn't have time to go searching for these sites.

Yeah you basically need helicopter access with a permit. It's a bunch of BS red tape if you ask me. The lava flow is quite slow but at night you are right its amazing.
