Default Remote start. What good right now?

So I wa looking at getting a viper with smart start. Was told DEI quality has dropped quite a bit.

Is that true? What do people recommend? I like the smart start feature over the cell network. Does anyone else do this?

IMO you were told incorrectly. DEI/Viper products are still top notch. BUT they are overpriced. There are other players in the market that have equal quality products for a lower price. Like arcticstart/compustar.

However, i dont think there as another manufacturer that offers the smart start feature or varrient (at a consumer level anyways).

That being said, an alarm/starter is only as good as its install!

Compustar now has their version of Smart start called "Drone"..

I would disagree with the Viper quality comment., I have seen alot of returns, and comebacks for faulty brains, and remotes on the 5900. I personaly wouldn't buy a viper, and if your planning on installing it yourself, I hope you have or have access to a bitwriter...

I would stick with Compustar, the new CM6000 brain is pretty nice, and has some cool new features.

i agree with silvercivic. i have spent too much time seeing people unh-happy with their vipers after spending an arm and a leg on them. they arent reliable.

going with a compustar would be my recommendation, i have had them in three of my cars and each one of them has worked fantastically without a hitch.

Autostart, Compustar and Viper all offer the smart start options. they are pretty pricy but well worth it, as well you can always add it on at later date to any standard starter.

Alarmtec, ask for Sydney and I know your asian so if you pay cash, he will give u good deal.

I paid $550 installed on my 240sx 5 years back for the 2 Way Compustar back then, he even gave me a free actuator on my drivers door so both doors would be keyless entry.

Joe at Auto Tech is the name that seems to get thrown around a lot. Apparently a superb installer, service, pricing and great reviews.

Does anyone know what happens with the viper smartstart if your phone doesn't receive reception or your phone runs out of batteries? Will the alarm still go off if you try to open your door?
