Mine is 90lbs of toothy beast, and she costs me roughly about $40/month in dog food. The insurance company classified her as "detached security system". I also leave a half eaten steel toed boot, some chewed up bent steel pipe, and a large dog turd near the front step.

From what I have seen, their systems are pretty weak sauce. All of the systems I have seen from them are ultra basic, 100% wireless and can even be removed by the home owner. How is that going to give anyone peace of mind?

A little trick for those of you dealing with APX. After agreeing to the terms with them they give you a week where you can call in and have the equipment removed.

But.. I read up and did myself, if you call and ask them to come remove their stuff they will throw in some perks in order to prevent you from doing that.

All in I received my setup fee refunded
    4 free months
Term of the contract lowered to 30 months.

All in ended up saving around $300 just by calling in and bitching a little bit. System has worked great and definitely like the feature of being able to disarm or arm/checkup on the system through iphone/blackberry apps..

I have an alarm monitored through United. $20/mo.
IMO, home alarms are pretty useless if a professional thief wants in. So I went with the cheapest monthy I could get.

House was pre-wired when I moved in, didn't mess with the equipment.

I'm doing my own alarm system. House is being pre-wired, so all you do is by a monitoring system and have it page your cell.

    who's going to install it?

My house is pre-wired, but installing the actually hardware seems a bit tricky. I wouldn't mind doing it this way as well.

That's the thing, once the system is installed and you have a sign outside no thief will ever know the difference In most cases you just wouldn't want to tell everyone in a public forum heheheh.

I have a couple buddies who do home automation. He's just finishing up his home, so I'm going to see how his works and if its successful, I will do the same.
