Default Soapstone for carving? Any idea where to find some.

Simple enough question, looking for soapstone that can be carved. All I can find is countertops and stuff like that on google...Am wanting to carve my own chess pieces.

Any idea where I can find soapstone to carve???

You might be able to order some through the Alberta College of Art and Design bookstore. It's in the basement, around the west entrance.

Try calling some of the granite counter companies.
I used to deal with an outfit called Dauter Stone. They used to deal with soapstone countertops and fireplace mantles. They might be a start or least a lead to somewhere that has what you're looking for.

Thanks. I don't spend that much time playing COD as that picture would assume haha. I'm just really looking for something else to do. PS3 is getting boring...Not much time left to bike until the snow hits...

    Give Labbe bedding a call

There are a few carvers in the Labbe family, they ought to have some good sources

Dad does this and this is where he gets his rock. He gets most of his tools and other stuff from princess auto.

Vdubbin thats perfect thanks man. Gonna go pick some up tomorrow and start this little project. Figure it'll be nice to bring a little chunk with some tools with me when I go biking too.

Hey No problem. Dad used to bring small pieces for us to carve when we went camping as kids. He's also helped my Sister teach a class on it in the school she used to work in. It is kind of relaxing but I'm just not good at it.
