    Default Advice: Compressors

Would an 8Gallon, 125psi (max) compressor suffice for the purposes of working on my personal vehicle @ home.
Looking to respray my car as well as use air wrenches for the rest of the build
Is it worth buying for convenient use @ home or will it barely serve my needs & offer more frustration than pleasure.
The compressor in question is in the passed weekend's Canadian Tire flyer.

Pay attention to CFM when buying a compressor.

What tools do you plan to use at home? As long as you don't plan to do any spraying/air sanding then you should be fine with a cheaper 8 gallon, though you may have to wait for it to cycle occasionally.

I'm mainly looking to re-spray a project car so i guess a spray gun is part of the tool list.
Add to that some impact/air wrenches & ratchets.
    That's about it.
What should i be looking for in CFM & what should i stay away from?

I don't intend buying another compressor so pls help me make the right decision in order to offer me project pleasure.
I work alone & therefore looking for wasy ways to do big jobs efficiently

    Assuming you're meaning this compressor...

    http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en

If you take a look at the specs you'll see it is rated at 3.7 cfm @ 90 psi. The average spray gun probably needs 6+cfm and a much larger tank than 8 gallons unless you plan to spray for 30 seconds then wait 3 minutes and continually repeat this process.

To be honest, when I spray finishes, I hate using anything smaller than 20 gallons, otherwise your compressor will be constantly running.

You're probably much better off shopping around for something used (like this) http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-s...AdIdZ235221038 than buying new unless you're willing to spend close to $1K.

This one is 5.5 cfm and 20 gallons. It still won't keep up if you want to spray for 10 minutes in a row, but you'll spend much less time waiting on it.

I use the Craftsman 33gal 1.6hp compressor. It's on sale now at sears for $100 off. Ive sprayed a few cars with it and it works great for me.

I have that exact compressor, and while it's great for light automotive work, I wouldn't even consider using a paint sprayer with it.

Keep looking, don't bother with that C.T. one.

I picked mine up from Sears in Montana years ago, when the dollar was still around $.85, I got my 33 gallon, electric 2hp, 8.6 scfm@40psi, and 6.8 scfm@90psi, for $360 ALL IN, that included exchange, and gst when I crossed the border.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

at that price, definitely a better option if any painting is to be involved.

    No

get at least a 60 gallon compressor, either that or don't use air tools.
