Cops took down my plate

Does anyone know why the cops took down my license plate? {assuming}
I was at the mcdonalds by diefenbaker high school and i wasnt doing anything illegal. not speeding or whatever, just parked my car and got out. Then when i left, the school cop pulled out some paper and a pencil and started looking at my license plate when i left. And im wondering am i going to get a ticket and is there a reason for them to do it?
