Default Gauge cluster needles not bright?

I'd like to figure out how to do it on my own, rather than spend $40 on some kit like this:

Just an idea...but maybe an LED of some sort...or some way to project light "thru" the needles...or maybe they are painted with a black light paint or something...

I wish you could just up and ask him, cause it is something I am kinda interested in now...But those are my ideas...

My semi-educated guess is UV (Ultraviolet) LED lights to replace the current cluster lights and some kind of UV-sensitive paint on the needles. HTH
Lovin' my new ride but I miss my old yeller CRX. :'(

C_CRX I would say you are right on. It looks exactly like UV led's and UV sensitive paint.
I have the same effect in my car by accident.
I used blue LED's, many of them emit well into the UV spectrum, causes my needles and numbers to glow, along with everything being lit in blue. It's pretty cool.

This is what it is, paint the bezel around the faces white, use a mini neon and tuck it at the top of the cluster where you cant see it anymore, all my buddies did this cause their clusters burnt out.

Get a few UV led's from Active Components or MRO Electronics, and some glow in the dark paint, or at least some neon-orange paint (make sure it glows under UV first)
The neon should work as well, but I wonder about how it would look?
