    Default EF Track Project-->Pic Intensive

I picked up a project recently & being my first hands on project, I'm pretty keen to get started.

There is rust in front of the rear wheels & above the front glass.
The windscreen requires replacement & the paint in general is badly faded.

The wheels were in pretty bad shape as well so those needed to be cleaned.Add to that the previous owner decided to install locknuts & did not supply the key so i ended off having to buy a socket to remove the wheels.

    A few pics:

    The problem lugnuts

So after round 2 of cleaning, the engine bay was finally free of the huge chunks of gunk!
It was worthy enough to be brought into the garage for me to start tackling the the body.
After a bit of grinding, I realised some sheetmetal work was required to get this body looking like new.

Also stumbled upon a crack in the paint on the right fender.
Gently ground that down & found it packed with body filler as well.
So, I'm contemplating finding a replacement panel for this as well.

For the rest of my build, feel free to offer advice & if you know of parts available to make my build simpler, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
As i said, being new to canada, I'd be appreciative of any help possible.
More pics of rust to follow.

I'm thinking of grinding away all the filler to figure out why the dude laid that filler on a decent fender.
Anybody think that's a bad idea?

Also, The repairs on the rear fender seems to consist of new sheetmetal placed over rusted panel then the joints were filled & smoothed.
My reason for saying this is I managed to grind thru a small patch of rust on the sheetmetal & found lotsa rust below.
So basically i have a li'l hole filled with rust but surrounded by perfectly good metal.
It can be seen that under the good metal is a good layer of rust.
Should i cut all this away & try buildup the panel myself (alternatively find replacement panel) OR should i cover it with body filler & forget about it?

I spent some time on the fender last night.
Turns out the filler was there to hide pressure dents....normally caused by resting elbows on the fenders whilst working in the engine bay.

It's gona be a li'l more work but i'm gona try knock out these pressure dents from behind.
I don't have pics to illustrate this since my cam more than likely won't show the slight dents

Progress is quiet slow since i'm trying to juggle time between work, family, gym & the car.
Add to that shopping for Parts is quiet time consuming as well.

spent some time on the car over the passed few days.
Managed to get the following done:
-disconnect electrical & piping. Now ready for motor to be pulled
-Closed a deal on an EG with B16 drivetrain & disc braking (took delivery yesterday-pretty stoked about that

Rhis is what the bay looks like now

So its been a while since my last update so here you go.
I been pretty caughtup with general work & family life but i managed to squeeze a few wrenching hours in.
I pulled off the right rear suspension on the EG.
That took the better part of 2nights since the first night i realised I was short of some much needed tools. Picked those up the next day & i was sorted
Below is a closer pic of the caliper.
Its painted red but laiden with dirt. Plan is to get it cleaned then decide if it still requires paint or not

    Closeup pic of the sleeve's

This passed weekend I spent some time with a buddy working on the EF.
I needed to have the motor out so my buddy can prep & paint whilst i continue with the stripping of the EG suspension.Since the hoist arrived later th\n expected, I left the engine removal for another day.

On the upside, we managed to remove the entire front suspension & a fewbody items like tails & rear garnish

today I decided to pull the motor & bright spark Myz forgot to drain the gear oil.
As a result, as the motor was lifted, oil started to pour out which left one heck of a mess to cleanup
Me pulling off mount bolts whilst the hoist suports the motor.
(Thanks to Mark for Loaning me the Hoist. Appreciate it!)

Almost There! My wife was lifting whilst I was guiding the motor. Thanks Babe

Pulled off the indicators to remove the bumper & look at all the gunk that's accumulated in there.
Add to that, the lenses are in dire need of a refurbishment. Gona have to google that & get right on it.

And Finally, A few shots of how she stands now

As you can see, loads of cleaning lies ahead for the next few days. Hopefully I can have it cleaned & sprayed by Thurs Night.

    And So the cleaning began....
And THIS was the result after the first round.
I'll be tackling the entire engine bay again tomorrow, this time with a paint brush, tooth brush & some scouring pads.
Need this bay spotless before i start painting.

I'm sure you agree the difference is amazing

I'm also going to pay some attention to the front valence as well.
Just get it cleaned up enough to apply some paint toward the centre behind where the air dam is.
Then with the bumper in place, the back will have the clean deep black look. Gotta love it!

Shiit engine bay looks clean, don't think it needs to be sprayed now! Do a engine harness tuck and wire tuck while you have the motor out.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but even after grinding you can still see oxidized metal in the pictures. Bondo if done well, will hold up for a year or two, then you'll see bubbling again. At the very least, coat it with Por15 before primer.

An update from the li'l work I managed to execute today.
I cleaned those li'l grooves & hard to reach areas in the bay & removed the air intake resevoir which was evidently serving no purpose.I then tried to remove the clutch cable along with the pedal assembly considering my new drivetrain is hydraulic.
I obviously wasn't thinking & after battling for access for a while, I figured i'd tackle the passenger side wiring harness instead.I didnt realise at the time, I coulda stripped the steering column & under covers from the dash to get better access.

After removing the heater/ventilation unit (which i no longer intend installing)I managed to get rid of the sound deadening material & finally got access to the point where the harness enters the engine bay.So i figured out how to get the harness back into the car, nut how about routing it thru the fender? I needed to find the shortest route into the fender even if it meant me drilling. The one thingi didnt wana do is cut my wiring for purposes of lengthening.

This is pretty much where i stopped but i was sure to take a good look at the fuse box as well.
It seems its going to be a breeze relocating that to the inside of the car.
Plan for tomorrow includes a bit of masking & strpping insulation off the harness tofind the easiest way to get the harness re-routed.
A few pics from today's work is below but i'll update with a few more pics tomorrow as well.
    Discarded Air Resevoir

    Discarded Heater/Ventilation Mechanism

    Entry into Engine bay

Closer View into Opening in Firewall

Opening that SHOULD allow me access into the fender without requiring cable lengthening
