Yellow Integra is running racing harness but no cage?
Is that legal?
[jealousy]you think if you can afford status seats and takatas for even your passenger, you can afford a 200$ roll bar to protect your spine in case you roll[/jealousy]
"Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners."
Rollbar is not necessary if harnesses are mounted properly and TBH we had a cage in that car like a little over a month ago.. it was pulled and sold only to be replaced with something better later this month...Originally posted by Modelexis

You sure a harness is illegal? I asked an officer when I got pulled over and he said they were completly legal and also Colin got pulled over and the officer was just making sure he had his harness tight and let him go.Originally posted by Reggie@MWDesign

Its not about how its mounted, its about rolling over. The harness prevents your body from moving in any direction and forces you to sit up straight while the weight of the car is on your head/spine if a rollover did ever happen.... at least thats what i know?...Originally posted by Redlyne_jr

Why would they make safety enhancing parts illegal? I mean, isn't that a good thing or is there some sort of odd, negative attribute i am over looking?
If they're not mounted properly they can kill you.Originally posted by beyond_ban

If the harnesses are mounted say, to the rear seat belt bolts, instead of with a harness bar, in a crash, not just a roll over, when you move forward or upwards, the harness tightens you downwards into your chair, compressing your spine.
I never checked in the integra, but regardless of roll cage and an excuse about no money, you need to at least have a harness bar. $400 isn't worth you being a paraplegic.

Food for thought. This is kind of the only reason i havent put a cage in my car yet,
When you race a car at the track its manditory that you wear a helmet. When you are on the streets it is illegal for you to wear a helmet. What happens when you get in an accident without a helmet and your head bounces off the steel cage? Or the fact that having a cage in your car makes it a rolling weapon that doesnt crumple in an accident like cars are made to.
Roll bars are a different story.

Depends how you have your seat mounted. I as well as many others run the super low seat rails so my head is over a foot away from the cage.

as far as I know harnesses are ilegal for street use for the fact the limit movement to do a properly shoulder check and such.
I am currently running a harness bar in my car but when I am not on the track i use my factor seatbelt
I've been pulled over a few times wearing the harness, CPS never made any mention of it even though it may be illegal.

No, it is not. I have NO idea where you people are getting your information from, but it is 100% incorrect.having a roll cage or harness or a bucket in your car is illegal on public roads....
I never said anything was illegal on public roads, that's not what I'm talking about. It's your own safety I'm concerned about.
Cages, rollbars and helmets aren't illegal for use on public roads SO LONG as they don't hinder an OEM safety feature like front rebar, air bags, doors opening etc. If you're wearing a full face motorX helmet and you can't shoulder check, they could write you a ticket for that though.
The CPS says, and I quote "We don't care if what you put in your car can hurt you in an accident, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else." So they wouldn't mention the harnesses and bars at a traffic stop. But that doesn't change the likelihood of you being seriously injured in an accident if they're not properly installed.

you sir are correct after a lil searching it is not illegal to wear a helmet. however i did get yelled at by a pretty pissy cop once for wearing one and i was threatened with a stunting ticket for it.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

Absolutely! It indeed can be used against you for a stunting ticket. Sorry for being blunt, but the ignorance was a bit staggering. For somebody wishing to get on the track and be safe, information like this could swing them away from it.Originally posted by blackpeople

Having said that (I don't like to be the worry wart), but a caged car is (IMO) dangerous to drive in without a helmet. Having been in racing accidents, the chance of your head hitting the cage without a HANS device or head "wing" bolstered racing style seats is almost a guarantee! YMMV
Sorry to thread hijack, but it is great to see these events grow in popularity in Calgary/Alberta. Don't want to discourage anyone with misleading info!
