I got some pistol shooting in this weekend. I didn't realize how rusty I was at IPSC drills. Quite embarrassing. lol

I also sighted in my birthday present: Ruger 10/22 standard with mossy oak stock. Already changed out the barrel to a stainless barrel. Using a Leo 4x-12x scope. Also bought a couple Butler Creek 25 round mags for it. Gophers will not have a chance this year! lol

Your better bet is to make friends with some farmers/ranchers that will let you use their land and use a rangefinder if you're set on shooting very exact distances (100 - 500 yards).

Could also try the Waiprous area. On non-long weekends it's not hard to find places up there to shoot. Just make sure you have a decent backstop and aren't shooting near or across a quad/hiking trail.

There's been talk of a few Beyond'ers heading out for some shooting, which could also help identify some decent places for you.

Two months or so ago I went to the public range at homestead for the first time in about 10 years. Holy shit has it ever gone down hill. last time I was there the tables were brand new and they had stops at 25,50,100,200,300 yards. Now the tables are falling apart and there is just a big pile of dirt at 100 yards. I was pissed because I wanted to do some load development at 300 yards.
It was in the middle of a snow storm and the only other guy that was there was shooting a leaver action rifle. I cant say for sure but I think he accidentally shot up into the air at a 45 degree angle. So more or less the range got worse and the people stayed the same.

If you want to join homesteads full bore long range, its not just shooting fun. Its competition f class.

For shooting in the forestry reserve, you just have to get far enough away from the campers and off roaders. I find once you get past north ghost it gets much better. In fact at highway 40 and highway 579 there is a small road on the left that goes up a retarded steep hill to a pump station. Its a nice shooting spot, There is a shitload of brass and plastic on the ground. Its too busy for me but its a good spot.
Once you get around burnt timber the forest gets thick and if you cannot shoot 600+ yards its not for you. Up buy surdre is descent apache has clear cut the shit out of a lot of land, it makes for good shooting.

For long distance range finding, you are better off with a $300 gps system than a $600 range finder. The expensive leupolds can do 1km, but not accurately. I have a ebay apparently 900 yard laser rang finder that is good to about 300 yards. I can range better with my mildots and a $40 mildot master than my $190 purchase off ebay.

Finally got down to TSE and tried out my new Taurus G2 24/7 9mm. Man, did I suck at first. As I worked on fundamentals I did end up grouping better. Put 200 rounds through.

Slight hiccup though. On both of my magazines, the last round would not chamber. I would fire and the slide would stay in the cocked position, it wouldnt go forward and chamber the last round. If I hit the slide release, then the round would be chambered.

This and next weekend are pretty jam-packed unfortunately, though I'm off work the third week of August and could likely do anytime in and around then.

I'm game for anything from a little target shooting to trap/skeet.

I am out of town this weekend. However, the weekend after (assuming I can get to my buddies and reload some ammo) I will hopefully get out. I am still attempting to develop the perfect load for my .308 using Varget and 175 grain SMKs. As such my next outing will likely be spent doing load testing but where we shoot you can have one or two guys shooting 100 yards and a few others shooting at whatever distances they like.
