For those looking straight shooters in the NE had a few Glocks left (34 and 48 I believe) and some other hand guns.

went to go grab a shot gun today and the guys at the counter said I had an issue with my pal and they couldn't help me. Figured it's Sunday but I'd email the cfo. She called me 10 min after I left the store and said there's nothing wrong with my pal.

She mentioned the odd error pops up and the stores shouldn't be lazy and should call it in to sort out the paperwork.

    So annoyed.

    Want to hear annoying??
I took my PAL and RPAL in October of '21... finally sent my application in April.... last night I recieved a rejection letter due to:

"These course reports indicate you completed the CFSC and the CRFSC on October 12th and 13th, 2021 from Instructor XXXXX XXXXXX. Following an investigation by the Alberta Chief Firearms Office, it has been concluded that the instructor was not following the prescribed course standards. The course you attended did not meet the mandatory standards required by legislation. As a result, your safety course certificates have been deemed invalid and your firearms licence application rejected.”

So full course amount down the drain... sounds like I can use the same application if I take the course again within a year of the application. I really hope this doesnt get in the way of transferring over my Grandfathers hand gun.. I will be really pissed off.

Did they say what the course standards the instructor wasn't following?

Was he telling you to always keep finger on the trigger? Always clean your gun when its loaded? Always wave your gun around when having a heated argument? I think that's the essentials.

As of right now most of the indications are that restricted transfers will be stopped sometime this fall, almost all CFO offices are months backlogged on all the restricted handgun purchases, my purchases took 2 months to process. It might be worth giving the Alberta CFO offices a call and see what they might suggest, ext. 9026.

That totally sucks. Have you considered approaching the entity or person operating the course and asking for your money back? Might be worth a try...

took over 12 months to have my pal renewed. This only happened in July as my MP got involved and it was instantly approved. Weirdly now I can't buy a gun as they say there's an issue but the cfo already told me everything is fine.

Wasn't that guy, I havent actually searched the name yet, but did send him an email inquiring. I paid via e-transfer, so not able to do much about that. In hindsight I should have known something was up, as he did the PAL and RPAL in one afternoon session with a private group of 6.

Below is the full text in the letter: (Plus they outlined the actual Firearms act)

SUMMARY OF YOUR LICENCE APPLICATION INFORMATION:
On May 20, 2022, your firearms licence application was received at the CFP Central ProcessingSite. The application contained course reports for the Canadian Firearms Safety (CFSC) course
and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety (CRFSC) course. These course reports indicate youcompleted the CFSC and the CRFSC on October 12th and 13th, 2021 from Instructor DustinNELSON. Following an investigation by the Alberta Chief Firearms Office, it has been concluded that the instructor was not following the prescribed course standards. The course you attendeddid not meet the mandatory standards required by legislation. As a result, your safety course certificates have been deemed invalid and your firearms licence application rejected.

This could be the case. 8h for PAL + 4h(?) for RPAL.

I did a private lesson with 4 other guys for PAL + RPAL in one afternoon on a friend of a friend's acreage back in 2012. It was definitely not quite by the book, but still with a legitimate instructor. He was just more flexible for us due to the relationship.

Took me 3 weeks to get my transfer approved. Bought mine on Labour Day weekend, got approved on Sept 27. I wasn't expecting it to be so short, but I think calling x9026 really helps you get approved.

Can you no longer do pal and rpal in one day by just challenging the rpal exam?

    Which is the same content.

Apparently the feds have an 8 month backlog on renewals. I am on month 5.

Mine expires in 13 months. I better send my renewal in Feb. I got in shit from the CFO because I didn't realize it had been expired for a month when I renewed.

don't let yours expire.... I'm assuming that's why mine took 12 months to get done. Who knows how long it would have taken had my mp not helped out.

Now If they can figure out why the system flags my purchases lol.

Yeah, my first purchases were two months because I just let the CFO work. On my second set of purchases I called after 2 weeks and I should have both in my hands this week!

Out of curiosity, care to share what the purchases were? Always love living vicariously through others...
