If you are okay with Iron sights a semi would be a good way to go to get you shooting or a cheap 22LR with a mid level vortex would also work well. Your scope will probably be the most expensive part of the gun excluding ammo but I've shot my 22LR out to 300 yards accurately. Shotguns are just insanely fun especially blasting clay targets. A good NR semi you will definitely be in the $2k range unless you want just a range toy which you could get a NEA AR for like $500 or so.

My only recommendation is go slow with buying stuff or it can get out of hand. I know too many guys who go out and buy 3 or 4 guns in their first few months not having a clue what the like or what is important and waste a ton of money.

Start with the 10/22 figure it out and what you like and don’t like and slowly build up the collection from there.

Yeah that is what im trying to avoid, specially these things since i heard it gets quite addictive. Ill start off slow, im always on the lookout for deals though. What websites do you guys order your guns at (preferably Canadian), any sites that I should avoid?

    Wolverine is solid for online.

I have bought most of my guns at CSC here in town though.

Sounds about right. I've had mine out to just shy of that and was able to consistently hit a 12" gong, no way you're going to be driving tacks at that distance. Prone shooting, bag at the front and rear, heavy barrel and a friend feeding corrections to dial it in.

Townpost and CGN EE for used stuff. Most guys are out to lunch on prices, like say a rifle is 1100 new and they put a crappy red dot on it and 500rds through it and are asking 1500. But sometimes there are deals.

Look into a CZ SP-01 Shadow / II if you want a phenomenal range pistol. I tried every single popular pistol before buying my Shadow (glocks, Baretta 92FS, sig, other CZ models, bunch of 1911's, S&W M&P, etc. etc.) and nothing even came close, for me personally. Also stick with 9mm for lowest possible ammo cost, you don't need anything more than that if you're just playing around at a range.

I also find speed loaders to be a double edged sword - you can reload a clip in ~10 seconds and it saves your fingers, but you go through ammo like there's no tomorrow haha.

I mean... a quick google search has the world record with a 22lr out to 900 yds.

Plenty of video's of guys shooting 300yds with a 22lr...

Maybe not too far fetched after all.

Haha, 165" of drop or 15.3 mils dialed on the turret. Next time we go to Milo I'll bring my 22 out and we can shoot it to 300m.
Check out 22LR PRS there's a few PRS style competitions that use 22LR and shoot them out to 300yards constantly.

Fyi if you havent heard hairdo is planning on banning ar15 and multiple other "military style" firearms if elected. Will also allow cicties to enact local bans on handguns... because that will reduce the gun violence (eyeroll). This confiscation will cost over $1 billion dollars when you look at the long gun registry, phoenix pay system, and other federal boondoggles. Gun owners need to stand up and be heard this election.

Ok, decided to pull the trigger. I would like to go and get my non/restricted licences here fairly soon. Any decent budget places offering the courses in or around YYC in the near term?

Delano with affordable firearms licensing is the guy to go to. Old friend of mine.

No one is cheaper and he’s a great dude.
