Courses are still being offered, licenses are still being processed and issued. Get it while you can. Calgary Shooting Center might have some course openings. And you don't have to do both in one weekend, you can do the NR one weekend and the R another weekend, and then submit both together.
Yeah, although they're being processed the wait times lately to even get the licenses from what I've heard from several people is insanely long.

The wait times are always long, just need to get your name in the queue

I've had pretty good luck. Had my original application at 45 days from mailing to license in hand and my renewal was under two weeks if I recall right. Mind you, I sent the application registered mail, called them once I saw my card charged to "see if I had forgotten anything" at the 28 day mark, took my reference number and had references call them and then called them again to make sure they had everything. Lady was very nice, said that she could see everything had checked out and she would hit the button while I was on the phone. Renewal was online, really straight forward.

Noob question here, so basically memorize this http://publications.gc.ca/collection...1-2014-eng.pdf

    https://www.theshootingcentre.com/training/cfsc/

To signup for a course you will need to drop by the range to pick up your handbooks and pay for your registration. Check out our schedule for course dates.

So go in, register, get the books, remember it all, and when ready go back and sign up for the class?

Non restricted first and then restricted Or can take both back to back?

It's not that hard, I wouldn't memorize it but familiarize yourself with safe handling, storage, and usage of a firearm. I did the course by myself with never looking at that manual prior. It's really not that hard and in my course they gave you ample time to handle the different firearms you were tested on.

You can take both at the same time over a 2 day weekend interval.

The shooting edge isn’t likely the cheapest place to get one, as always I refer to my buddy Delano who runs Affordable Firearms Licensing Alberta

    https://m.facebook.com/pages/categor...8477449386464/

He runs his business from Facebook and is really good at responding to any questions you may have.

Books are available online if you don’t want to bother with hard copies.

You can't take the courses on the same day but you can apply directly for your RPAL once both courses are done. I wouldn't bother remembering everything, just a quick skim through should be sufficient. Pay attention in class and everything should be common sense
I believe part of the tests include picking up the gun and showing that you can identify the action, mag, safety, loading and unloading.

Knowing your calibers doesn’t hurt either as I remember there being a component where they make you pick a certain cartridge from a line of them

Did my NR yesterday and R tomorrow, they say it takes 4-5 months to process right now. Went with ITTA for my license, they specialize in firearms and tactical training.

I used ITTA for mine back in the day. Seemed good. Back then you could stay 4 more hours to get the R. Seems a lifetime ago.

With ITTA, NR is an 8 hour course and R is 4 if you take course together and within 10 days. They break it up into 2 sessions. If you take the Restricted past the days from taking the NR then it’ll be a 6 hours instead of 4. I liked ITTA they were very thorough, they know the ins and outs of their industry very well.

Finally got my PAL/RPAL, I sent my application at the end of February. It doesn’t help that I moved and forgot to change my address so that delayed it another week.

Reviving this thread with a shitpost. I bought this 16" barrel 22lr rough rider purely because it looked silly. Shotgun for scale.

Took it out this morning for the first time, wasn't sure if I would actually like shooting such a long pistol but it's seriously good fun and the long sight radius gives you groups that make you look like a superhero.

Picked up a box of 22WMR on the way out of the store to try next time, since this came with a 22wmr cylinder as well.

Stupid question time: My RPAL is up for renewal and I just re-applied online. I recall having to provide proof of membership to a gun range the last time I renewed but it didn't asked me this time. Do they ask for that after? Or is that something they don't check anymore?
