HRV / ERV in Calgary?

So I am working out some of the details of my new build.

Any HVAC experts out there?

Do you need an ERV in Calgary or is an HRV good enough? How does an ERV work in the winter as it transfer humidity?

Are the HRVs that are sold in Alberta efficient enough to outweigh the cost of heating the incoming air with the furnace as opposed to the electricity required to run the HRV?

I went with the HRV. The air in the house is always fresh, not stale. It setup to run for 20 minutes every hour.

My wife likes the fact that the house never feels stuffy, even if there are 40 people over.
