DVD burner! educate me!

Ok, I'm looking to get a DVD burner in a aday or so. Can I copy dvd's perfectly? Like coudl I rent or borrow advd from somewhere and burn it perfect with all teh menus and digital sound and have perfect picture quality?

And play them on my hom edvd plaer/home theatre?
