    Default Compustar Drone

I have been envious of the viper smartstart since it came out, but i could never install viper in my vehicle again, too many bad experiences/stories, and i love my compustar pro 2-way, however, i just saw about this drone and was instantly sold.

according to my research it's a very basic install, pretty much just plug it in to our rs232 port and it's done.

anybody know where i can buy just the unit? (i figure if i can buy just the unit and save myself $50+ it'd be worth it)

Visions sells both smart start and drone. I went with the smart start however for my VW. Gets installed wednesday. We will see how it turns out.

You should also be able to get a drone from Ebay. But i dont think that it is as straight forward as you may think....I could be wrong though.

i have a compustar pro 2-way installed in both my vehicles already, i just need the addon. it is available on ebay, but after shipping it's not much of a savings over buying it local including install.

Seems cool, there is some data transmission lag though as seen in other Youtube videos.
I would like to hear more from someone who has this system before I jump in.

Just installed one a couple days ago in the wifeys vehicle seems to be working okay. A little lag between sending the signal from her iPhone 4, and the time the button flashes back telling you It started, but not much more than a regular 2 way remote. She just got the Nustart NUAS-3502 she uses her phone as her primary remote and one 2 way remote on her keys as a backup just in case. Install was easy 12volt, IGN, GND & RS232 port.

So can you install just the drone or do you need a compustar system already plus the drone?

from what i have read you can install the drone as standalone, but you get only the start feature, it's best to install ti with a comustar "drone compatible" unit.

the local place i called wants $375 installed, and i already have a $600 compustar pro 2-way installed.

Drone is cool yes, however for the price unless you plan on using the GPS functions and paying $100+ a year for the subscription for it, you`re much better off getting either the Viper Smart Start or Autostart Smart start. Less expensive units, and cheap for your yearly fee.

I have personally installed 3 Autostart smart starts, 1 Viper smartstart and one Drone. I would choose either the Autostart or Viper over the Drone nine times out of 10, only reason I would go for the Drone is if you have a standard transmission vehicle and don`t enjoy the set up for the Viper or Autostart although its not any more difficult.

Drone comes with a free year of basic service and I think its like $40 after that, but yeah the GPS upgrade is over $100 a year. I love the drone though, it sends me alerts from my alarm and remote start. There is a bit of a delay but seems to work good. You can do it stand alone, but works way better with a two-way. I would go to stripetech in the SE, they do it for $350 installed. That way you can keep the warranty and such.

    Compustar > Viper anyday IMO
    Autostart is decent though.
More features on the Drone then on smartstart

Has anyone checked out or is using the Titan system? I recently talked to a fellow at audio concepts and he mentioned that the Titan system is the only system he isn't having problems with. Seems to be a bit cheaper than the other ones at least in the monthly/yearly payment department.

Ive had both the drone and smart start installed on my car. Here are my thoughts:

Smart Start: I hated it. The setup for the manual is stupid and requires you to have a fob to put it in ready mode. It didn't start half the time. Has all the run of the mill starter functions

Drone: Love it. The compustar system is brainless to put into ready mode. I have the premium account and the GPS functions are amazing. The web based options are second to none. The notifications are great! Would love it if they came in the app itself however (android). Also has the run of the mill starter fuctions.

The have a very pretty website, but im always weary of new companies. Audio concepts is very reputable, but its not unheard of for companies to push a product because they make the most profit on it. I have had 3 compustars now, and have always loved them, never had problems, and my new one came with lifetime warranty. Hard to argue with lifetime warranty.
