Default Finished my business school degree... average salaries?

So I'll be finished my international business degree in 3 weeks here. The economy is the shits. I get that. This is not a "What job should I get?" thread. Already have that mostly firmed up.

For those who have graduated in the last year-2 years, what are you guys making on average and what are your positions? Just curious so I know some rough numbers to go into salary/contract negotiation.... Thx for the help.

Also, if anyone got "with distinction" on their degree (3.5+ GPA), do you feel that helped in the hiring process/salary negotiation or not really?

^Thx , thats what I figured. Second question still stands regarding the "distinction" thing.

    re: Distinction
It may help get a job if the employer likes that sort of thing, but it wont get you any more money.
(When I graduated, 1/5 interviews asked about grades. No one cares)

I found out later that "with distinction" did help me start out at a higher salary than my peers when I began working downtown in 2005.

I'd say that my grades were a big deal in landing my first "real" job (given that I had no other experience), but after that, not so much.

I found that distinction only really helps you land an interview, after that you're on your own and grades aren't particularly relevant.

I thought Haskayne kids were all going to be ballers that were going to be raking it in big time post-grad...

Doesn't seem to be the case. Oh well, at least they can all still pretend.

Those values are pretty accurate for the starting salary.. and are you really surprised to see that marketing and "hotel management" kids are making 20-30 k less a year than others.....

Similar salary survey from 09 for Geology/Geophysics/Engineers showed avg starting salary of about 52-55k...

The key take away being that this is where B.Comm/B.Sci Geo/Eng start with salaries topping out from $180,000 - $10,000,000(CEO) /yr... where as your cement layer buddy is making 18$/hr with a top out a 45k a year..... that 18$ was pretty tempting when your making $9.50 at best buy and going to school 45 hrs a week tho....

Don't get me wrong I am huge on school, but I have numerous friends in trades that make 100,000+ annual gross. 45k the first couple years maybe.

maaaaayyyyybbeeeeee in a highly skilled/specialized trade with certification and experience... But talk is cheap.... so cheap in fact, that its free..... just like 2/3's of Haskayne kids claim to have jobs pre-grad as investment bankers for $200k/yr

No even as cable installers, flooring installers, painters, and yes also papered trades of course. I went to post secondary and my wife is currently in school as well. I think education is the super important, but for some people trades are better suited and with work ethic the money is there.

Well I can tell you with absolute certainty that the average annual income for single adult in Canada is $37k... surprised we aren't seeing more painters at the BMW dealership with that kind of earning potential.

I don't know about all of Canada, but 37k in Calgary? My friends that do make higher incomes in trades do work much longer hours than I do.
