I get to go through each and every one of your yards to read your meters 5 days a week trudging through the snow drifts you have created clearing your driveways and fending off the meanest of mean outside year round dogs so you have an accurate bills and considering last week we were the second coldest place on earth right after the south pole.....and i was out there for 8 hours i figure i have one of the coldest jobs out there

Coldest for me was when I was up in Fox Creek, setting up an well testing unit.
A 15 hour night shift, in -38 degree weather (without the windchill) the wind was unreal, snow literally going sideways, not down. With the windchill probably -55 to -60.

Lots of fun carrying 300 pound sections of pipe over my shoulder with one other guy trudging through 3 & 4 ft snow drifts, for 14-15 hours straight. Then try doing that for $200/day (which is the equivalent to a $11-13/hr job)
I dont miss the oil patch not one bit.

I wouldn't even do that for 500 a day, when I can make 300 doing something easy and fun..

That was back in 2006, when oil patch activity went from going GANGBUSTERS to absolutely dead within 2 weeks.
My district was screaming for people, shutting down trucks because of the lack of work. 2 or so weeks later they laid off 20 out of 60 employees. I was one of them, so while I despised this job a friend got me, I was lucky enough to have a job in any manner.... Although I landed work back in Calgary, so after two weeks of that, I packed up and came back home.

Trust me, that was by far the most shitty job imaginable.

Ughh, Conklin is one cold fucking place in the winter, been there and done that.
My coldest was -48 + the windchill. First frac treatments on the Ootla Shale gas project for Apache in 2007. I was a fluid pump operator at the time and we always tailgate at the company I work for . We were pumping a job one night and we built a makeshift tent by attaching a huge tarp to the roof rack of our crewvan and the backs of two pickups and standing a 2x4 up in the middle. We had a kerosene heater pumping warm air into the tent and it brought the temperature up to -30 inside. By far the worst 18 hour shift of my life.

We did make history on that lease though with the 5 biggest fracs in North American history.
No pictures as it was what is considered a tight hole at the time and I do not live in Calgary so I am out.

No kidding. While I was a land surveyor I worked a few days up north. When you are outside for a constant 12 hours, holding onto a metal pole, Unable to wear gloves because then you can't write legibly. That sucks. And the best part, no hills, no trees in sight for cover.. Just open fields... Pure northern arctic windchill. I don't think I've ever been so cold in my life.

1) carbon fiber pogo
2) Helly Hanson thin gloves that you wear underneath your mitts
3)TDS Ranger w/survey Pro (paper notes can be done in truck)

It's honestly the worst cold I have ever felt in my life; a 100 foot walk from the camp to the rig feels like miles and the wind rips right through anything you wear.

The average temp while I was on location last winter was around -55 to -60...it's not right, not right at all haha.

I also have a fantastic story about trying to escape Alaska while Mt. Redoubt was erupting, but I will save that for another time.

Was going to say the husband was working in Prudhoe Bay for a while, he said -55 was common, no or little wind chill.

Or, at 942am MST, we were the second coldest....

943am MST shit could of changed, but for that minute, we could of been the second coldest.

Think except for RMH, we had the lowest high of all of those.

In winter I generally spend every day on roofs repairing Hvac equipment, while some days are nice, many are cold.
In order to handle small parts and connect small wires, often you have to ditch the gloves. After 20 years of this I no longer have any feeling in my lower finger tips.
There is no putting off repairs, people call, they want heat and jumpering safeties is a no no.. You go when people call, dark or light day or night.
When you get to work indoors, its either in 120 deg mechanical room or -30c blast freezer with 5hp motors giving you the windchill of your life..
Its a job I wouldn't recommend to anyone...

Yea, too bad I wasn't about to pay for 1 or 3, it was company equipment. and the thin gloves never did anything really, it was better just to go without :P
