    Wow

This is one of the most redundant slices out of the shit-cake we've had to eat in a while... Banning higher alcoholic contents won't solve anything. If people want to get drunk, they will. Period. You're only going to make them buy more of it, and increase social dissatisfaction by doing so.

So strong beer hasn't been banned yet, sales have just been suspended...
CALGARY – Because the Canadian government has classified beer with an alcohol content in excess of 11.9% to be a spirit, the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission (AGLC) has suspended sales until a report is brought before the board, the Toronto Sun reports. "We would need to make sure we're in line with federal (regulations)," said AGLC spokeswoman Lynn Hutchings-Mah. "I don't have a date of when that would be." Alberta sells roughly 1,600 brands of beer, and less than five exceed 11.9% alcohol. "Your average beer is about five (percent)," said Hutchings-Mah, noting she couldn't say what beers will be affected. Under the ban, beers already on store shelves can remain there until purchased but cannot be restocked until the AGLC issues its decision.
Link to story - appears that the media has introduced the word "banned".

Never the less, this is another cash cow that the province probably won't let slip out of their hands and if anything, strong beer will be back with a higher price.
    Will fuck off, again.

Alcohol consumption is not banned, neither is drinking a spirit, beer or wine. Percent alcohol is not governed but they want to apply an arbritrary rule that decides for us what percent beer we drink?

makes absolutely no sense. Kind of like control mongering.

Don't make a new policy just for the sake of appearing to be doing something productive."

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't even go for the super strong beers, but it's plain as day that they're doing it PURELY to seem like they're working hard to accomplish something. Same as banning caffeinated drinks, and all those dicks who want to get rid of Mike's Hard because it is "specifically designed to look appealing to kids".

Fucking useless knee-jerk nanny state reactions to a dumb problem. When did it become alright to treat people like such children?

Did they give any notice or was it instantaneous?

Where's the Beyond CSI team? I'm surprised there's not already phone numbers and office addresses.

I emailed them with contempt. I don't even drink, and I'm outraged.

No it falls under the "spirits" catagory

This is no big deal, just have to give the manufacturers/importers some time to get their documentation corrected

Hopefully there is some egg on their faces due to the outrage and the ludicrosity of this incident and this gets resolved soon.

Spirits are required to have 20% alcohol. And its how the alcohol is produced that classifies beer, not how much alcohol it has. Spirits are distilled, beer is not.

Thank you. Copied them all as well. Got my response, looks like all but 3 were legit given the way her response formatted their e-mails.

    Nice job!
