Default Salvation Army rejecting toy donations

Apparently Harry Potter and the Twilight series are black magic now and the Salvation Army is rejecting those toys that are donated. Don't worry, fake guns are still cool.

This is absolutely ridiculous, my donation is going elsewhere this year. I'll probably wind up calling their office to let them know.

Yeah lets donate our money else where because they are saving kids from the literary abortions that are harry potter and twilight. I bet you are going to be outraged to find out that pretty much every single Christmas hamper organization in Calgary is not atheist.

Anyone else just face palming at the hilarious irony of people getting uppity about Christian organizations giving people Christmas gifts in accordance to their beliefs?

Frankly the world would be a better place if we torched all the twilight and harry potter books not because they are black magic but for the simple reason they are crap being pushed on kids to dumb down literature.

The salvation army has always been working under the pretense of ultra conservative christianity. They openly discriminate against gays and anyone who doesn't believe in the jesus.

    Stuff like this:

The Salvation Army began to require all employees in its Social Services for Children division to fill out a form on which they: a) identify their church affiliation and all other churches attended for the past decade, b) authorize their religious leaders to reveal private communications to the Salvation Army; and c) pledge to adhere to the religious mission of The Salvation Army which, according to The Salvation Army, is to "preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
That's some creepy stuff right there.

So yeah, there are many other charities out there that will happily get your toys and other HEATHEN BLACK MAGIC to those in need, without discriminating in their beliefs.

I don't agree with what they're doing, but I understand why they are.

Salvation Army is Christian. So naturally, they're illogical. Better off exposing kids to firearms than imaginary charact-... wait.

... really? I'd be happy that kids are actually reading at all these days. Even when I was growing up, most kids figured cereal boxes qualified as sufficient reading material. Anything that encourages kids to read and have a fucking imagination is a-okay in my books, even if I wouldn't bother to read it myself.

What is an appropriate secular organization that would be a good alternatve to Salvation Army?

Perhaps we should forgive them for their ignorance as somebody, at some point, has forgiven us ours.

An organization that does as much good as the Salvation Army, does not make all that null and void by having a few obviously silly policies.

Every single person I have ever met had a few obviously silly policies, the amount of which becomes especially apparent when you get past the obligatory social facade. People are silly, fearful, egotistical, flawed beings, and people run charities. If you don't make mistakes, then by all means chastise them for theirs.

    Makes sense.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. Just like hammers don't kill people; people wielding hammers kill people.

However, vampires kill people. Therefore vampires = bad.

Salvation Army has been a Christian organization since the beginning. How is this surprising to anyone?

There are lots of charities out there, please find one you do support.

Exactly. It's their organization, they can do what is appropriate to them. Definitely seems crazy to anyone non-religious, but giving the Salvation Army grief about giving out gifts they deem in-appropriate, is akin to giving a Muslim group shit about not handing out Dreidels

Goodwill, and Red Cross. If you really want to donate toys, how about directly to a local homeless shelter, or hospital?

I don't agree, but I understand. In the end, who cares? They are a good organization that still provides a great service to the less fortunate.

If somebody doesn't like it, they can donate to another organization.

Uh, Christians have been saying that Harry Potter promotes witch craft for awhile.

But Twilight is written by a Mmormon, which I guess isn't a problem for them?
